Re: Werner Shuna Straight Glass Paddle 215cm (Amber) - Kent
I would be happy to let a forum member have it for £190. HOWEVER, I have listed it as COLLECTION ONLY as by the time I add package and courier costs you would be as well buying a new one (postage is normally free from the retailers). So, if someone lives in South East Kent this would be a good buy, ...

Re: VHF Radio Test Calls
The coastguard are happy enough at Dover and will sometimes get you to switch channel for your paddle plan (if you haven't already telephoned them with it). If Dover CG sound busy, I will call Port Control at Ramsgate on Channel 14 for a radio check (they always sound happy enough to acknowledge the...

Northshore Atlantic Question if I may?
In the absence of an email reply and calls to Northshore landline and mobile numbers, I wonder if their are any heavier paddlers could give advice on the plastic Atlantic. On the Northshore site it says the 'paddler weight' is 110kg (I am 111kg). Does this mean that by the time I put on my gear/safe...

Re: Phone photography - waterproof cover...
I take two phones on the water, although I choose my conditions carefully and they are very unlikely to end up in the water. Here's my reasoning.... If it's raining/splashy, a tiny bit of water on you phone/camera will cause condensation when you put it back in it's cover. So I don't bother with the...

Re: Late summer/early autumn fishing
I prefer lures and flys myself. Also if you use bait you will almost certainly want to anchor. IMHO the associated risks and boredom outweigh the reward for dragging up some doggies. Source local knowledge and find out whats being caught and whats catching them. Anglers Afloat Forum is a good place ...

Re: Rescues and letting go of the boat
I always tether myself to the kayak when paddling solo which is most of the time (not during launch or landing unless it's flat calm). I had 4 tethers (rods, paddle and me) on my fishing kayak and never had an issue when self rescuing over six years. I ensure my knife is accessible and capable of cu...

Re: Really bright torch
If you have ever tried shining a bright torch from inside a van it'll blind you more than the snoopers. More effective is to press the test button on your CO2 detector. The pikeys snooping around my van in France didn't like that noise at all (they thought they had set the alarm off) :-) Could also ...

Thanks for the feedback Nick. Makes sense.
Just ordered the book from ebay as that site has no paypal and I'm not a fan of giving card details if I don't have to.

Why did I not do this before......Adding ballast.
I have been a tad disappointed with my progress in my Capella 166. I bought it in January and have had coaching on fundamentals but never seemed to get comfortable with the boat whilst practising what I was taught, even feeling a bit wobbly when taking photo's. I am 5' 10" and 17.5 stone and have be...

Re: Venture Islay 14 SOT vs Triumph 13
You will get more feedback on the anglersafloat forum than on here reference those to yaks. However...... I sea fished and paddled a Triumph 13 for 3 years. Very well constructed kayak which I could fly fish from (sitting). Not everyone got on with the tracking although I found it was ok unless I wa...
