Re: Smart watches and kayaking...

I don't really like wearing a watch on my wrist while paddling. I don't think it's good for my wrist seal and it's likely to be covered by the outer sleeve and therefore hard to read. I have a cheap waterproof watch on my BA instead. The silicone strap on the Garmin Fenix is long enough to allow it...

Re: Smart watches and kayaking...

Sorry to resurrect a thread from a few months ago. I’m considering getting a smart watch. For me the key data would be speed, distance covered and position. There are quite a few cheaper watches with built in gps now (for example Amazfit Bip U Pro which goes for £60) but after considerable googling...

Re: Fidden campsite - Mull

Thanks for your replies everyone, I must admit I'm just a little jealous of pathbrae who was able to walk past to check!! Sadly only here for a week, but what a spot! Yes, I had planned a week on Mull based at Fidden before the Pandemic hit. I have been to Mull before but on mountain bikes not in s...

Re: WANTED - Northwater paddle britches

Sorry, you can't have mine but if it helps consider where the attachment points for your deck lines are. My own kayak has them quite widely spaced apart and I had some messing about to do to get the paddle holders to stay where I wanted them - they tended to slide away along the lines. I tried a lo...

Fidden campsite - Mull

Does anybody know if the campsite at Fidden on Mull ever reopened after the lockdown? Have you stayed there this year? I'm just thinking ahead to next year for a visit to Mull. Thanks.

Re: How to plan where to go (for wussy newbies)

Your general rule for the tides isn't very general, doesn't work on the North Sea Coast at all or the English Channel. From the North Coast to the Wash it floods South and East. From the Channel to the Wash it floods East and North. I had intended to say that there are many exceptions, oh wait, I d...

Re: Tiring kayak session

The bottom line is that being out at sea when conditions are tough can be miserable and frightening. There'll always be a day with better sea conditions ahead - just work out what you and your boat are comfortable with and stay within those limits. We all have to do this, regardless of what boats w...

WANTED - Northwater paddle britches

Does anybody have an old or simply unwanted set of Northwater paddle britches lying around and wants to sell to a good home? Maybe you bought them and don't like how they work or fit on your boat, maybe you are selling all your kit and would have 'thrown then in' as part of the deal or they were a C...

Re: Seals

Angel Bay on the little Orme has always been a honey pot for seal watchers and I would say the majority of sea kayakers who venture out there are aware of the marine code and maintain a respectful distance. From personal experience and from discussions I’ve had with plenty of kayakers, the NWWT woul...

Different construction - not Trilite!
Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. My boat is the latest Trilite construction so it’s lighter and stiffer. I’ve probably missed this summer’s mad rush but there is still a shortage of boats so hopefully someone will know someone who will make me an offer.

Buy a free standing Geodesic design like the Terra Nova Southern Cross 1. It can be pitched anywhere on any surface without pegging out or any guylines.

Mine is the small one in the middle with no guylines

Ok, so over 100 people have looked at this boat and not a single question, comment or offer. If you have clicked on this please tell me what’s wrong with it.
If it’s the price, make me an offer. I have bought another boost and don’t need two.

For sale Venture Jura MV with skeg - now sold

I'm selling my year old Venture Jura MV. It is Ocean Turquoise with yellow deck lines and Trilite construction. It is in great condition other than the 'usual scratches' on the hull. The cockpit has the P&H connect outfitting with ratchet strap adjustable back rest and twist-lock adjustable foot peg...

Re: Coast to Coast - Humber estuary advice

Hi Chris, we got as far as the Foulridge tunnel near Colne and then Wales was reopened and the attraction of the sea was too strong!! We do plan to continue the C2C as a project but as you may have seen from some of my other posts, the summer has been full of sea trips and we are also busy through A...

Re: Coast to Coast - Humber estuary advice

Hi Chris, through lockdown and the winter months, we got as far as the Foulridge tunnel near Colne in Lancashire then they opened Wales so the sea beckoned and the C2C kinda stalled. We have put a lot of effort into the logistics and paddling of the C2c so it is our intention to continue. The Foulri...

Whatever choice you make, dry suit, wet suit or tee shirt, we all then put additional layers like a spray deck skirt and a BA over the top so in these conditions its gonna be roasting whatever we do. I was with a group doing safety and rescue practice at Colwyn Bay N. Wales last night and we measure...

Ooh - speaking of fog, I had a spooky half hour or so on the way to the Skerries on Sunday when a gentle mist descended, just on the very surface of the water. The Skerries, West Mouse, the horizon and everything gradually disappeared leaving just me on the mirror calm flat water with a blue sky ov...

Re: Hot Paddle

Thanks Seawolf I did half of that trip from Porth Dinlean up to around Penrhyn Glas. I turned back at that point though perhaps I should have continued but it is a roughly 24 mile round paddle and my wife was ashore. I presume there are some races as you get further round. Today in the Gumotex mess...

Are there any kayak clubs on the Llyn this week that I could tag along with an organised trip. I have all the gear and a faint idea. I came across a solo paddler on Bardsey island today who was on his return to Porth Oer with a carrying tide but an opposing wind. I would enjoy such a paddle but not...

I was out on Saturday & Sunday for an overnighter on Anglesey, one of our group was in a full dry suit!!! https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/78304/1626860359766-9333.png He had to roll regularly to avoid the 'boil in the bag' syndrome. In these conditions I wouldn't last 2 minutes in anyt...
