Lost. Half a Werner Cyprus (Anglesey, 25 May 2019)

I lost half a Werner Cyprus paddle in Penrhyn Mawr, playing the main race (and pearldiving). 25/6, around noon on the flood, so it must have been taken towards Abraham's Bosom, South Stack etc. I know it's a long shot but if anyone would find it, there's a reward waiting for you in the form of some ...

Re: Paddle recommendations

I've had all three makes and VE is my favourite. Too bad they stopped! I knew they were designing new wing paddles, so this is surprising. All three makes paddle nicely and apart from VE I like Celtic too. I've just seen a few break, they seem a bit fragile. Maybe coincidence. My problem with Werner...

Wanted: kayak ergo

Who has a kayak ergo for sale please? Ideally one that can be stored quite small (e.g. KayakPro compact) but I'll consider anything that fits into the house. I'm Merseyside but can travel. Cheers! Kris

Re: Hi there!

Salut Djack, You have a good plan! If you have time you might consider stopping over in N Wales as it has excellent paddling on Anglesey and various other places. There are many options and a good paddling community there so if you give a shout you'll almost certainly find locals to paddle with (I'l...

Re: Werner paddle button jamming

Yes, that happens to my paddle too, I often need to have a few go's before it catches. Annoying for a £400 paddle (I have a Cyprus).

I can push it flush from the inside. But that doesn't help.

Even if I do that, it won't pop back out to lock the paddle when I put the two halves together.

Re: Werner paddle button jamming

It happened to me too, twice (same new paddle). The Werner locking system is elegant and handy but I find it to be very sensitive to even the tiniest amount of sand or dirt. I had to send the paddle back, they fixed it for free, but there is a bit of play in the ferrule since, and the button sticks....

Re: Waterproof camera -any advice

I've looked into this myself and the Olympus TG-4 seems most tempting - dpreview recommends it and their reviews are usually very decent. One reason is that it can shoot in RAW format unlike most other waterproof cameras. If you can't be bothered processing RAW files that's not an argument of course.

Re: Cruising inertia

Why do you think I'm not teaching physics? ;-) Obviously air resistance is the crucial thing in my reasoning, only a lazy physics teacher would exclude this as it is the predominant force in cycling over 20 km/h. Your exchange of potential and kinetic energy is correct and it is why, in a vacuum, a ...

Re: Cruising inertia

Interesting question! In the very simplified (impossible) case where the only difference between the two conditions is the total mass I think it should not make a difference. In real life, a greater mass for the same hull will increase friction drag because of more wetted area, and thus require more...

Valley Aquanaut LV for sale

It's the 3-layer plastic version in yellow.
It has had some use, but has no real damage and is in perfect working order.
This boat suits a short to medium sized person.
Comes with a free 220cm paddle (very basic but it does the job).
Can be seen on the Wirral (Wallasey).
Fixed price £450.00.

Thanks for the tips, I bought both books as this was just what I was looking for. Coastal Turmoil is a real book, with lots of information, and excellent value for money (albeit aimed at yachtsmen rather than kayakers).

Re: Silva 70P versus Garmin 70P compasses: are they identica

Thanks, I am "Up North" to most people (Liverpool) but not to you! ;-) I just fitted the compass. At last I won't have to look at that ugly recess any more! By the way the box for my Garmin compass mentions a 2013 date on it, so I'm not sure how to links that to the presumed recent take-over of Silv...

Re: Silva 70P versus Garmin 70P compasses: are they identica

I got a reply from the seller:
"Garmin have taken over Silva Marine and are now starting to brand the compasses as Garmin.
The compass is identical except for the name."
So I'll just keep the compass. If this is true, it basically means I'm getting the latest version!

Re: Silva 70P versus Garmin 70P compasses: are they identica

Thanks, Yes I also googled their looks, but it's hard to tell whether they are identical. And there are regional differences between compasses that you can't see. E.g. many handheld compasses for the N hemisphere will not work on the S hemisphere. I think Silva is Brunton in the US, not Garmin. Anyw...

Re: Silva 70P versus Garmin 70P compasses: are they identica

Thanks Mike, I've seen that link to the .eu shop (but how reliable is that), and was aware of the link between Silva and Brunton, but Garmin was new to me. I was hoping someone would have seen the compasses side by side or so. I'll just ask the seller I guess, they delivered a Garmin althought the d...

Silva 70P versus Garmin 70P compasses: are they identical?

Hello, I was wondering whether these two compasses are identical (apart from the name on it) or not?
I ordered a Silva (online) and they delivered a Garmin. I'd send it back unless they are indentical. Any ideas?
Cheers!
