Re: Drysuit newbie help

I went to a local shop yesterday and tried a few on, it's my first time in a drysuit and I really didn't like the feeling of the latex neck seals at all, the glideskin on the PS220 was bearable though. So given my intended use of touring and not too many upside down shenanigans I've ordered myself a...

Good to know thanks, they were the ones I'd picked out to buy next spring when I hoped to put the drysuit away for a few months

Re: Drysuit newbie help

Thanks guys

Like i said I'm not a great goretex fan, it's good when it's new but I've had too many top end mountain jackets fail, I prefer Neoshell or eVent now, but I don't think there's a drysuit option yet :)

Drysuit newbie help

I'm looking at buying my first drysuit, it's a big spend for me so I'm hoping to get it right first time. Budget is £400-600, I've narrowed it down to a handful but still not sure which to pull the trigger on. Typhoon MS 4 Nookie Charger Typhoon PS220 Palm Alutian I've read reviews and opinions on m...

Re: close encounter with a humpback whale

I think my drysuit would need a whole new level of cleaning after that one

Re: Hello and a few q's

I just thought I'd update this thread in case anyone else was looking at outside storage ideas. My original plan to buy a plastic boat changed when I set my heart on a used composite Atlantic being sold locally, the price was just too good to ignore. I had originally intended to lay the plastic boat...

Re: BIKES AND KAYAKS

I know a guy in the Netherlands who uses the same system daily for his commute on a 16ft SOT. He only lives 1km from the put in and says taking a boat into the city is easier/cheaper than a car. Handy for folk who live close to water I suppose. What are the legalities of towing something kayaky from...

Re: Reported rescue of kayak (with outboard and sails??)

It might be an open canoe, plenty of folk sailing them and leisure motors are getting quite common too

A question for NS Atlantic RM owners

Could I ask a big favour from any NS Atlantic RM owners, I'm in the process of building a storage rack and would like to know the distance between the bulk heads.

Many thanks if anyone can help

Re: Hello and a few q's

Great info thanks e-wan, much appreciated I was thinking about hooking up with Kim Bull for a few lessons eventually, I need to get in touch with him and see what he's offering this year. It'll be rare that I'm paddling solo if I'm honest, on trips I'll be with other kayakers, canoers and a mate wit...

Re: Hello and a few q's

Thanks for that Mike

That's a good point about making sure the bulkheads are on the rack supports, as I've not bought the boat yet I'll see if I can find out the specs for the NS Atlantic RM.

Re: CAMPING and TICKS

This works in a different way to DEET which is an insect repellent. Permethrin is a knock down agent which effectively paralyses the insect's nervous system but does not kill it. I like having the combination not just for ticks but also for midges. Permethrin is highly toxic to fish and to a lesser...

Re: CAMPING and TICKS

I've been using permethrin for a number of years now and the results have been very positive. I use a spray-on from Nomad Travel which I treat my camping gear and clothing with a couple of times a year. I spend a lot of time of the Scottish west coast which is usually rife with deer and therefore ti...

Re: Hello and a few q's

I' ve managed to source some scaffolding bar locally today for a good price, so I'm going to be going with something like this ... http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd291/Shewie01/canoerack.jpg It'll be much more secure than my existing timber rack and will allow me to stack two boats on it. Is it ...

Re: Hello and a few q's

Hi Mike Yeah no probs using that picture, I originally made it for a 12ft 13kg Old Town Pack as shown, when I upsized to the Bob I was glad to see it took double the weight no problem. 2x2" treated timber from B&Q, simple half lap joints and a couple of steel L-shaped straps for good measure. I'll h...

Hello and a few q's

Hi all, first post so please be gentle :) I'm looking to buy my first kayak, most likely plastic to begin with and at the moment a North Shore Atlantic RM is looking favourable. A decent choice for a beginner? I've been paddling a 15ft Novacraft open canoe for the last five or six years so I'm at ea...
