Pyranha Jed Medium

Pretty much like new. Hardly even any scratches really. The squiggly white lines in the orange on the hull are not scratches; they are just how the dye must have flowed in the manufacture. £500. Use bicycle carbon seat post paste. Get it on-line or from any bike shop. Not expensive.

Island Explorer LV

Selling my Island Explorer LV on eBay (or here). Very good condition. 100% watertight; all bulkheads 100% watertight; hatch covers like new; skeg working smoothly ( and have just run a new cable to it to be sure).

Re: Skeg repair

Thanks James. I will pm you. Meanwhile....... I have cut away the tape. Clearly it was part of the original design, since it is indeed recessed. However, if its purpose was simply to keep grit out of the skegbox that is the least of the skeg issues. Cutting it away has made the skeg slightly easier ...

Re: Skeg repair

Thanks James and Chris. Yes, I have seen that post before, but decided it didn't relate to my boat, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, although the backrest on my boat is horrendous, that isn't because it is of an unusual design in itself. It is a quite conventional design, but just mounted to the bo...

Re: Skeg repair

Thanks for the further advice. Sorry for the slowness to respond - I have been away lading a school camping trip. It rather seems that each Island Expedition must have been unique in how the skeg was fitted and operated. So far I am completely at a loss as to how the skeg in my boat was ever suppose...

Re: Skeg repair

Thanks Plymouth, Ken and Pathbrae I think I am much closer, with your help. I get the point that gravity alone would not keep the skeg down, and that the cable would need to be stiff enough to have both a push and and a pull action. Therefore I agree that the current cable must be a failed bodge. Ho...

Re: Skeg repair

Thanks. Yes there is a grub screw, but it doesn't appear to serve that function, unfortunately. It's function seems odd, to say the least. My slider is the same as photographed in Mike Buckley's article and I am attaching a photo of mine: https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/uploads/74766/152351524...

Thanks. Yes I had done that already, and found these two threads: http://www.ukseakayakguidebook.co.uk/skeg_repair/art_skeg_repair.htm#skeg1 https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=77554 However, neither addresses my issue. Skeg repair

I wonder whether someone can explain how the skeg on my kayak is supposed to work, so that I can repair it. The boat is an Island Kayaks Expedition LV, built in 2007. The skeg sits in an offset box which is open to the elements top and bottom. The control mechanism is a slider, and the connection (a...

Re: Looking for a playful sea kayak

Thanks Overfallpaddler. Yes I have probably come round to composite. I used to build glass kayaks when I was a teenager so I am comfortable with repairs, and I agree that plastic boats are only tougher until you break them. Having said that, I am pretty tempted by the Karma RG as a rock garden boat ...

Re: Looking for a playful sea kayak

Am being told to think again re Karma RG, although I must confess I have never found Jacksons comfortable. Small too small and medium too large. I will pm Ringmaster for details however.

Re: Looking for a playful sea kayak

Thanks. Yorkshire is too far unfortunately; I find Jacksons uncomfortable and the Karma RG is not quite sea boat enough; regarding budget it's about the boat.

Kind regards

Re: Leaky Dagger Jitsu

The cockpit rim design issue is common to all white-water daggers I think. They all have straps which fit very close to the edge of the cockpit rim. The best mitigation is a really well-fitting, very high-quality latex-sealed deck. The more time the cockpit is under the water the more challenging is...
