Home-made Kayak Ergo

Has anyone here tried building a kayak ergo? (Like a rowing machine) Any plans/photos or hints/tips? Thinking about trying to build one as I don't get on the water as often I'd like and I really need something to help improve my forward paddling technique and core rotation. I've got hold of an old c...

Re: Specs or contacts?

Thanks Dan, that's great advice. Was going to go with my regular optician (of 20+ years) for advice, fitting and supply. I carry a gel wash a part of my "lunch" kit and alcohol wipes in my first aid kit so would have used one of these to wash before poking my fingers in my eyes! tbh with all the lur...

Re: Specs or contacts?

I'd forgotten about nocturnal contacts - my sister in law has been using them for a couple of years and thinks they are great... Hasn't had any issues either. Lots of enthusiasm for disposable contacts though - I had heard opticians weren't keen on folk wearing contacts for swimming etc, but I think...

Specs or contacts?

Until now I've used a spare pair of specs with a headband for paddling. I've not really paddled anything beyond grade 2... Maybe a tiny bit of 3 on the Tay. I'm hoping to step things up a bit in the year ahead, but realise I'm now likely to swim and so the specs question has become a bit more import...

Re: What do you do with your car keys.

We do this too: The other thing we sometimes do is put all our keys in one car and that person keeps their key on them in a waterproof bag/box.... C And until now I've kept my key in a small drybox with lanyard tucked in my BA. Really like the idea of a plain unchipped key.... Going to get one cut A...

Re: Group Shelter Recommendation

Depends on what kind of eventuality you want it for. Mine is a really old vango one for a group of 8. The reason I went with that is that on my ML course we were told that you needed one that could accommodate a casualty that had to lie down. Not sure if you think you need to go that far! I've only ...

Re: Advice please: Cag & Trousers now or wait to buy a Drysuit?

Thanks for all the input. Just ordered a Chillcheater cag (£70 in the sale http://www.chillcheater.com/special-offers/dry-cag-long-sleeve-24291). That's not dented the savings pot too much, so I'll start saving for a drysuit too. Loads of love for both options. All your suggestions make me think a c...

Re: Any Li'l Joe owners out there?

There have been a few jefes and lil joes up for sale recently with the same/similar hip pad arrangement. From the cockpit photos I've seen, though the pads are near identical, the fitting differs. Some use a strap arrangement and some are like the one Chris C describes (slotted backplate and screws ...

Advice please: Cag & Trousers now or wait to buy a Drysuit?

I've only been involved in kayaking for a couple of years and have until now got away with a wetsuit, a "splashtop", and a pair of Palm semi-dry trousers. This isn't really working for me now, it's an inadequate solution in colder weather and I plan to upgrade...but cash is tight! I could go with a ...

Re: Any Li'l Joe owners out there?

Thanks Chris, I'll have a look this evening. Unless the screws are captive on the kayak I don't have them (they weren't in the bag!).

Thanks again. p.

Any Li'l Joe owners out there?

I bought my son a Li'l Joe recently. He loves it and it rolls like a dream. The boat came with a sealed bag of hip pads and shims (never been used/fitted). The only problem is I can't figure out how to fit the pads correctly. There is a plate with two slots in it that looks like it's the backing pla...

What adhesive?

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best adhesive to use for fitting out? I want to glue closed cell foam to the inside of the kayak, but I'd like the foam to be removable too in case I want to change the set up in the future - or sell the boat on...

Thanks in advance, Paul
