Re: Paddling in Pyrénées (June/July)

Thanks Adrian. Just about there now. Had a nice pleasant day surfing at Biscarrosse today. Not big, but some nice peaks and you can’t argue with water temp or 20 degrees :-). Probably heading to Lourdes area for Tuesday.

That’s map is very handy. Thanks.

Paddling in Pyrénées (June/July)

I was just wondering if anyone could offer any advice on whether there is much to paddle around the French side of the Pyrénées. Just looking at options for MTB, but also some WW paddling around Lourdes, or perhaps further east as well. Planning to be there end of June To around 10th July. If anyone...

Re: Introducing your kids to paddling - What age ?

We found dabbling in boats on a nice day from 3-4 upwards, rollng at around 7 or so, just as a fun thing to teach them, then we started some Rivers and Surf when the girls were 10 and 12. Summer Paddling in the alps has worked very well for us for the past 5 years.

Re: A little something I noticed...

That fact is that we don't actually need any organisation for recreational paddling, the BCU recognises this by not even having a single recreational image on it's home page and I guess they don't bother to marketing themselves to the recreational and WW community - I just watched until the images r...

Mmh I'd have used the word 'class' rather than style :-). Apart from anything it's seems risky to precious parts of your body if you are paddling.

Re: Austria, Landeck/Prutz area - Campsites

What's the traffic situation going through landeck. It was often a bit of a bottleneck coming down from Prutz.

Also is the Sanna ok again. If heard some years ago that it had been smoothed out by a large landslip. That was a while ago now though so hopefully it's OK again.

Re: Austria, Landeck/Prutz area - Campsites

Thanks for the comments. Looks like the one by the border looks nicest but a tad far up the valley. As far as I can see the Prutz one still looks like the best bet for good access to Sanna and Further down.

What if you already do that? Is the question still valid. This questionaire doesn't take into account an...

Austria, Landeck/Prutz area - Campsites

Hi Guys, Our thoughts are turning to the Summer and warmer paddling in the sun of the Alps. I was wondering if much had changed in the past 15 years with respect to campsites in the Landeck area of the Austrian Tirol. Does anyone have recent experience of campsites. We normally look for somewhere no...

There is no reservoir on river left! It's on rover right. It's a bitch of a hill at the point at which you are likely to be walking out, but there is a track to the resrvoir.

Bottom line is - absolute best case scenario, assuming it's daylight, good weather and you know the terrain/ paths well - you will reach the road in around an hour to flag down help. That help will need several more hours at the very least to reach your buddies. Completely agree Mark, we had an inc...

Re: Upper Dart – Why is it infamous?

Have you walked down it (river left) that's an adventure on its own. I did ask if you could walk the Upper just to check it out, and told that it would be quite hard work. I paddle with some very good boaters that I would have no quarms about running the Upper with (they might thought!!). So group ...

Re: Upper Dart – Why is it infamous?

In high water it's pretty full on, in low/medium levels it's definitely not a gnarly run. It's reasonably continuous, and there are a few decent grade 4s (portageable if you really want), but nothing that serious. Tbh I've never realised it was considered 'infamous' (although names like Euthanaisa ...

How to get the images from the camera to the internet reliably is an interesting question. I assume that power is sorted - there is a turbine next to it and it's currently got power I guess. Does anyone know if there are any cables or ducts from the house to the Turbine shed already? Assuming there ...

Hi Stuart, It always seems to look like there will be nothing left for our usual trip at the end of July 1st half of August, but then there is always plenty to paddle for our group. Do you think this year much different from last? Hopefully will catch up when we get out there in 3 weeks time. regard...

Correction, I just listed the whole lot, but lost it as couldn't edit it for that long so as tea is ready just the total will have to do.

It ended up as 29, incluing Kids boats. Starting from age 4.

I think it's approx 22 or 23, if I incude boats that were bought for me to use when with my parents, and more recently the childrens boats, but not Penny's.

No I forgot WW racers, add 2 = 24.

Never mind - the paddling will be much better in France :-) I'm happier to be doing it myself than watching someone else enjoy themselves and paying for the privelige. If it was someone I knew then that would be different of course, but then I'd probably still be unable to get a ticket!! P.S We have...

I agree completly that longer paddles give more power in the stroke and that this is very helpful for river paddling. The reason I use 191's and soon 194's is because I'm used to using lots of quick strokes rather than less big and powerful strokes. Though this may be poor paddling (? maybe start a...

I can vouch for Sault Brenaz, it's a very nicely designed slalom site, which can be swum, Hydro Sped (they hire the kit) or played in Kayaks. There are 4 different waves that hold properly and some great fast surfing on the big drop with excellent boily eddy lines on the main drop. The water is warm...
