Float-cut in the UK
Put simply are there any known options other than DIY for having a boat re-seamed and float-cut in the UK these days, without downtime? I'm hoping to have my Meltdown reseamed and recut, as it's never been entirely waterproof since I got vertically pinned in it 4-5 years ago, and was always a touch ...

Re: The best boat in the WORLD!
Has a bad boat been designed in the last decade? Sure the Ammo/Scud/Nano were niche, and many people disliked them - buy they had a place and a following - steep low volume - tick. The pure is a little quirky but Jim Snyder uses one so it cannot be that bad? So any real bad boat? AND by bad I say u...

The Jefe on the other hand... The Jefe is a bit fat slow wallowing pot-bellied pig of a boat. Like a Topo with mumps and without the smiles. I'll bite... The Jefe is perhaps a bit of a let down compared to the Gus, but it's not awful by any stretch; in any case the Jefe-Grande turned out to be a mu...

I don't thinK that counts as the Brown. Why are you being so nasty he clearly broke his back. If there was something for him to learn then he' s learned it right there. If your point is people run things may be they don't have the skill to, then I guess we have all done that at one time or another....

This thread is just crying out for a 'listen love'... I was rather hoping you'd post up that very tasteful photograph of Tao Berman that illustrates exactly what kind of "Pro" pro-kayakers are... At which point peakfreak (formerly of this parish) would contribute an heretofore unseen image which co...

So, maybe I am over sensitive to this as I have a fear of being left behind - [God I hate going last] I used to be like that, but after an age of always ending up being the back-marker*, I now wouldn't have it any other way and really like being at the back... It's very much a fear you can train yo...

Re: Zip up PFD's
I wouldn't look for a zip... but an opening. IMO the Astral Green Jacket is the best BA/PFD in the market, and it has side opening. I've had a Kokatat Ronin Pro, which was excellent (and if i could justify three BA's I'd still own one) but the Green Jacket is better. The HF Serpent (now discontinued...

Re: Yes, but did you catch that eddy?
I see the joy in catching lots of eddies and in attaining, it certainly adds challenge to 2/3 rivers where otherwise I'd be bored... However, I get frustrated when people insist on doing so on the dull flat sections of a long river (evil tree-ditches excepted), thus slowing the whole proceedings dow...

[Paddler] Thats great, Id like to do the course then as Im not that worried about being on the BCU database. Already, more and more providers are offering performance coaching, or skill-specific coaching with no qualification attached... Whilst I'd certainly consider those, the idea of going on a B...

Re: High Force
what is used indoors is commonly know as top roping,as the rope comes from above and idealy if you fall the fall factor will be 1 which is minimal. But then if you apply the same technique outdoors, with an anchor rigged at the top and belayer on the floor you'll find some people calling it "bottom...

I couldn't help being reminded of "49 Megawatts" about the damming of the Ashlu for a run-of-river hydro project... you may well have already seen this, back when it was originally made. I've got a pair of astral brewers and would not recommend that anyone buys there product unless they change the way that grippy base of the shoe is connected. At current they are glued on leaving the seam exposed if you kick or rub your shoe against rocks. This after a few wears will result in the ...

Why is it called a slalom? Seems to me the object of slalom is to get down a course without hitting anything, this event requires you to hit targets, it seems to have more in common with 4 cross racing than slalom....??? I was envisioning something more like this ... Albeit on a slightly less grand...

Re: Why do people still paddle a topo?
FWIW, I can't stand topo's, between fitting my legs in and the total lack of glide I just find them a miserable paddle... If I was forced to go back to an early 80's design, I'd pick a 4M slalom boat (maybe a Lugbill-Hearn Batmax?) or a Whitesell Piranha* any day! Josh, the topo was designed as a k...

Sorry I can't be of much help having not tried one on but as a general point I'd personally always chose too baggy over too short when buying a dry suit. I'm still curious about "Live Baiting"..... I am also, I can't really see what's likely to be offensive about it; I can see why it wouldn't be considered acceptable for use as a formal description in say a syllabus, risk assessment or technical document on rescue technique, but not why it would be ...

I don't know if it's just me but this is one (possibly THE one?) subject that I find just utterly distasteful when used as a subject for joking and light hearted banter. Worse, I find my opinion changes of people who do use it as fuel for their banter -- and never for the better. I honestly don't t...

My big bit of advice would be to break it down, but never actually leave your boat... I've seen a lot of over-cautious groups making themselves feel much worse about what is a relatively straightforward paddle; ask one of the coaches you TRUST to lead you down on your own or with a SMALL group of pe...

Unfortunately, it's reached the point where I've outgrown my Crazy 88; I've resisted selling it for some time now, but it's clear that even after loosing weight I can't shed enough to make it work as I know it should.
