Re: Replacement fin for five-0??

Anyone know what fin and where I might get it to fit my perception five-0 sit on surf kayak? It’s out of production, someone in USA has stock, but wondering closer to home. Had heard the cobra strike fin fits but can’t see them for sale either. Any help gladly received! Sam Not sure where you are b...

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

As previously mentioned two years of rolling every week in the pool 98% successful rolls, lots of confidence from that being a touring orientated, first white water experience a couple of weeks back, straight over and straight into a wet exit. Now I'm thinking I need to take the roll out of the pool...

Re: Thule Wing bar vs Whisp Bar

My Thule aero wing bat has a centre rubber strip which reduces any slippage. Primarily I went for Thule because of the hydro glide attachments which I already had, if your looking to transport a sea kayak, canoe or longer boat then there is an advantage, but less obvious for a small ww boat. No nois...

Would definitely agree about joining a club, but are you wanting to paddle all year or gearing up now for the warmer weather?

Re: Rolling Question and Advice for Newbie

I practice my roll every week in the pool. My right side roll is strong, when I did not come up first time on one occasion at sea, I went to pawlata and came up. I think I always go into automatic set up which for me is the quickest way I get up. I would have to have a bombproof automatic both sides...

Re: Rolling Question and Advice for Newbie

I can understand the advantages to being able to roll on both sides on WW, but is it so necessary on open water? Just I'm a one sider can't seem to get the other side sorted.

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

c to c wise need a better sweep out as thats really not going to work with the paddle in its normal dived position. Not sure how to practice just the sweep can get the angle right to start just goes wrong after that. Thought about trying offside. Not rolling! Just trying recovery with a paddle (lump...

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

I have never rolled in the sea or on any club trips, to be honest I don't like getting wet. However I roll every week in the pool and feel I have to keep my roll up to scratch by rolling every week. In the pool it's been 100 percent for the last year. For me, I struggled with the sweep roll and stil...

Re: Newbie... transporting!

There was a point when I was committed to weekly kayaking and had a car I wasn't going to change for a while so invested in Thule aero bars, to be honest £50 more than Halfords and much better quality as well as reduced wind resistance, so may save some pennies in the long run. Before I committed I ...

Re: BAs?

I have made this comment before but I think it's an individual's route into paddleboarding that determines, if you come to paddleboarding via surfing your less likely to wear a BA than if you come to it via a paddling background.

Re: putting a sea kayak on the roof by yourself

I also have a spoiler in my Honda HRV, the sea kayak is less of a problem than my 46kg canoe. I use a large carpet off cut across the spoiler and rear window, bow on as far as I can get it from a side load and then push. To date spoiler and rear window in tact. I have Thule v cradles but tend to jus...

Re: Good boat for surfing and short coastal days?

I think the reference (Discontinued) on the websites is probably referring to the introduction if this new model and the fact they are selling the old model off with a couple of hundred pounds reduction. Although it will be interesting to see how people respond to the new changes in a kayak that has...

Re: Good boat for surfing and short coastal days?

I had a relook at the website. I believe the Canoe shops are selling new discontinued versions at a discounted price, as they are making reference on other pages to new delpnis which I am guessing may be the corelite version ?, so maybe a slight further reduction for anyone considering a purchase

Possibly if you came to SUP from a surfing background you don't wear a BA and if you came via a paddling route you do?

Re: Personal Floatation Device

Hmm, here in Ireland, it is a "legal requirement" for "water users"to wear them. It seems fairly randomly policed, so sail and oar paddled craft are the main targets, whereas no one gives a damn for surfboards or kite boards, who seem to be considered as swimmers. It gets ridiculous to the point wh...

Re: Personal Floatation Device

I feel more informed now about why kite surfers and windsurfers don't wear a PFD. I want to try s SuP and personally will choose to wear a BA, probably also a helmet possibly sped along by the gales of laughter from board shorted surfers. I may try and hide the VHF and flare pack. Rescue knife and s...

Re: Personal Floatation Device

I picked up a SUP mag and there was not a single BA picture in it, also viewing you tube clips, even those aimed at newbies not a PFD in sight ,this seems a little strange as I have often observed how paddlers and boaters will often berate someone who posts a picture of someone minus a BA or kill co...

it is however the case that many sit on top paddlers wear PFDs except possibly some surf ski paddlers and varying tethering suggestions on both those. Is the comfort issue if paddling a canoe very differerent from a SUP?

Personal Floatation Device

I have been wondering about this for a while, Can anyone tell me why Stand up paddleboarders, kite surfers and lots of windsurfers don't wear PFDs although they go some considerable distance off shore, when kayakers and dinghy sailers are devout PFD wearers usually?

Re: Holidays

I was thinking a way round this problem was to take something foldable. I have an inflatable Colorado unused for some time but it's too heavy for baggage. I like the look of the oraku but it's too expensive, and I did consider an inflatable SUP, otherwise something like a neilson holiday but they ar...
