Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Nice videos the sort of thing you want as a prospective purchaser, shame none so detailed on the Tempo. Look forward to your trials when your able. I bought a few years back a cart for a heavy canoe I had, it has no name Chinese I suspect but is a folding aluminium cart with a couple of webbing stra...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

The internal block appears more polystyrene I knocked a few bits off trying to get the trolley out. I had same experience 54lbs 24 Kgs felt much heavier. when pulling on trolley over the rocks and the cart kept slipping with just a few bits on a guy kindly came and helped me lift and carry over some...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

They look good. Certainly not tub like as described in that last post. Although had never come across that Comanche by Atlantic Focus boats looked interesting. Guess your lucky paddling together as you can work out your self rescue techniques together and even have two boats to raft together should ...

Re: SoT with sit-in performance

As someone who has recently sold a Dagger Charleston and chosen an RTM Tempo for solo coastal paddling I’m learning a lot about SOT dynamics. As the centre of gravity is higher in a SOT I have found the ability to carry out those manoeuvres undertaken in a sit inside compromised, even with thigh str...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

It was the ocean comfort pro, I recon it’s best part of inch / inch half at a guess, but also pushes you forward. It was a completely different experience than my previous paddle. Last paddle I did find without any back support doing a bit of deck chair paddling so hope the back band will work out. ...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Thought I would drop you a note after a bit of learning today. Second trip out and I decided to attach the ocean seat pad with back band. Jumped onto the kayak in knee deep water with a little surf and went straight over tipping me in the water. Apart from the amusement it caused onlookers it confus...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

I think the tempo , it’s predecessor scupper pro and midway all have reasonable capabilities as sea boats. Good article and pictures from Jersey sea kayak adventures and also seen pics of them going out with groups of more traditional sea kayaks. I guess they maybe just possibly a little more limite...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

I did use the thigh straps but although I had fitted them at home I didn’t get the set up right on the water , managed to get some purchase on them but need also to get them fitting right, but definitely and advantage as I did manage to edge whilst turning. I guess if your a commercial driver you ge...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

The handles on the side are strapping with plastic so they do move. Tracking was excellent, on my old Charleston I found it improved with the skeg down but the tempo presented no problems, it was fairly windless though. I use Thule Aerobars which I have always just put kayaks and canoes upside down ...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Maiden voyage yesterday on the Tempo. No issues regarding stability, even when caught unawares by the odd wave although conditions settled to be very calm. pretty quick, I’m comparing with my now sold Dagger Charleston. Foot well is just a bit out for length of my legs, the closer brings legs too fa...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

I have purchased some RTM thigh straps as well as two second hand seats, one is a large yellow back band and the other a seat back and pad in a grey spongy plastic, both made by ocean. I’m not sure they will be necessary as the seat area is quite a smug bowl. The seat may also raise my centre of gra...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Apart from looking to fit a sail, I was looking for something to do a little solo paddling on along the coast. I narrowed my options down to The midway and Tempo as best available SOT sea boats , possibly may do some jigging with feathers but hopefully mainly a bit of distance touring. Sent from my ...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

I just went for a Tempo back in February , received it from RTM two days ago. RTM in France were not keeping UK office updated with delivery due to covid so it was all unpredictable. The shop had a midway in order which could only be delivered in a different colour. Not got it out on the water yet b...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Having paddled sit inside kayaks for a number of years and having learned to roll I was also reluctant to go for a SOT but I knew that having not practiced rolling on a regular basis and paddling alone I was at less risk with a SOT. I did think about a wide stable surf ski but I think being inherent...

Had heard the cobra strike fin fits but can’t see them for sale either. Any help gladly received! Sam Not sure where you are b...

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

As previously mentioned two years of rolling every week in the pool 98% successful rolls, lots of confidence from that being a touring orientated, first white water experience a couple of weeks back, straight over and straight into a wet exit. Now I'm thinking I need to take the roll out of the pool...

Re: Thule Wing bar vs Whisp Bar

My Thule aero wing bat has a centre rubber strip which reduces any slippage. Primarily I went for Thule because of the hydro glide attachments which I already had, if your looking to transport a sea kayak, canoe or longer boat then there is an advantage, but less obvious for a small ww boat. No nois...

Re: Rolling Question and Advice for Newbie

I practice my roll every week in the pool. My right side roll is strong, when I did not come up first time on one occasion at sea, I went to pawlata and came up. I think I always go into automatic set up which for me is the quickest way I get up. I would have to have a bombproof automatic both sides...

Re: Rolling Question and Advice for Newbie

I can understand the advantages to being able to roll on both sides on WW, but is it so necessary on open water? Just I'm a one sider can't seem to get the other side sorted.

Re: Bl**dy Rolling

c to c wise need a better sweep out as thats really not going to work with the paddle in its normal dived position. Not sure how to practice just the sweep can get the angle right to start just goes wrong after that. Thought about trying offside. Not rolling! Just trying recovery with a paddle (lump...
