Re: Is HPP open? An easy checker
The app now shows sessions with open slots in an easy to search format below the graph, as the HPP/NWSC booking system is a pain to use!

As an update to this, HPP is planning to reopen this Saturday. Slots need to be booked in advance and are 1 hour 30 long.

Re: Is HPP open? An easy checker
The gauge is below the course. The Trent is a highly managed river, so the EA keeps the level above the course (through the city) fairly constant.

Is HPP open? An easy checker
Living near HPP I often get messages from friends asking if HPP is open, as they don't do a very good job of communicating with the public about it... I put together this web app to help answer those questions: https://ishppopen.co.uk/ It takes the latest river level (and 36 hour prediction) from th...

Re: Which action camera?
If you want decent quality then I would wholeheartedly recommend gopro. You don't need one of the newest fanciest ones - the Hero session (like this http://amzn.to/2fLwRKN) would work perfectly for what you want. There are "clones" out there, but there are a lot of rather dodgy practices around some...

Nikon AW130, or the olympus. Both excellent little cameras.

Newark Weir Hassle
Hey all,
We had some hassle getting on by the river right weir at Newark yesterday from a lady in a white 4x4. Interestingly there has also been steps concreted down to the river on this side, and an eddy created with more concrete filled sandbags.

If you like it, then get it - paddler weights are just guidelines as said by morsey!
It is very very different in feeling to the other "series" of zet boats that all share similar design cues.

Re: Recommendations for new club paddles?
Just a few thoughts from the UoN kayak club - we get through a lot of paddles! Palm Mavericks - we had a *lot* of issues with these with paddle blades falling off. Palm repaired them on warranty then they fell off again! Ainsworths - same issue. A lot of broken blades with these paddles Carlisles - ...

Re: Artificial courses
As a Uni club we use HPP an awful lot to progress people between our river trips. As a club we run 5 big participation (40+ people) river trips a year, taking 40 people, with normally more than 20 having started kayaking that academic year, onto the rivers of Wales, England and Scotland. In between ...

Can you tell us more about the new thigh grips and whether they will be available as spares that can be retro fitted to existing boats? They are a lot deeper and hold your thighs so much better. The mounting system is the same, so I think they should be able to be fitted to existing boats, I'd drop...
