Re: Xceed-S?

Other option in your weight range is the valley Gemini. My fighting weights 62 and I find both the SP and ST versions very playful and not too slow compared to longer boats. Although it’s a long way from you the NSW sea kayak symposium in 2 weekends time (30-31 March) would be a great chance to tria...

Well we ended up getting enough folding kayaks together for 10 paddlers. Here's a report on Sky news

Operation Jaywick

G’day all I’m a member of a group planning a re-enactment of the op Jaywick paddle for the 75th anniversary of that commando raid. We are taking a bunch of modern day veterans, including a couple of double amputees and island hopping from Panjang island to Singapore. We were going to use kleppers, h...

Re: Valley Sirona

Have you thought about the valley Gemini? I have the ST version and apart from the valley seat really love paddleing it in surf and on day trips. Although I haven't paddled a Sirona to compare it too so can't comment on the Sirona

I'm 62kg however so it might be a little small for you.

"Three men in a raft" and "five months in a leaky boat" by Ben Kozel. It's about 3 20 something blokes with no paddleing experience that paddle the amazon from source to sea and then the Yenesi in Mongolia. Ben is a terrific writer and the books are full of tales of adventure, triumph and near misses.

Just a thought, could you use a pool noodle? I think it might compress enough to shove it down a paddle shaft

HONDA HRV

I've got a 2005 honda HRV that's only done 55000 miles and is in great nick other than some rust in the rear doors around the rubber seals. I paid £2700 for it in August, but I'll take £1500 for it and throw in the thule roof racks for free as I've got to head back to Australia and need to sell her ...

I'm heading back to Australia for 6 months and have a SCUD that I don't want to take with me, but as I'm planning on returning to the UK after that to work for another 6 months I'd rather not sell it. Is there anyone interested in using it for the next 6 months? It's located in Stoke

Who wants to borrow a scud

G'day all I'm heading back to Australia for sometime and have a SCUD, an old 54cm touring bike and a 55cm cannon dale road bike. As I might be back to the UK in the future I'd rather leave them here with someone than sell them and have to buy more gear if I end up returning, so is there anyone out t...

Re: Filter bottles for drinking water - which one?

Make sure still use either iodine or chlorine based water purification tablets, such as puritabs, as the filters won't filter out viruses. These are available in most chemists in Kathmandu if you don't get a chance to pick them up prior to leaving.

Paddling next week

Anyone around Staffordshire interested in a paddle next week? Thought about going to HPP, but wasn't sure if anyone would be paddling midweek. I've just arrived from Oz and looking for some paddling companions. Paddled up to gd 3 in US and Australia. Also keen on some sea kayaking in the future, but...

Re: Advice on recommended boat weights

What conditions did you demo the boats in? was it just on flat water, or whitewater? My thoughts are that if you felt the 55 was more responsive than the 65, Id go with the smaller boat. The other option is the Jackson funrunner 60, which is a little more playfull than the zen, but still a very forg...

New in Staffordshire area

G'day

Just moved over to Stone in Staffordshire from Australia. Wondering if anyone is interested in going for a paddle at HPP next week? Also happy to travel up to 2 hours from here if you've got a trip planned. I'm happy with up to grade 3+ and have my own gear.

Re: Antibiotic resistant bacteria

Trying to control the improper use of antibiotics is indeed an issue, but the hunt for new antibiotics for resistant organisms is very slow as the drug companies don't make much money from the newer classes of antibiotics because although they are expensive, they don't get used enough to make the re...

In terms of US visa's, I was under an E3 visa which is available to Australians, on a 3 month elective I think you would be able to get by on a tourist visa, but I'm not 100% sure of this. In terms of malpractice, as I was employed by the university I didn't have to have any, as I wasn't privately b...

There is some whitewater paddling round sacramento, and May/ June is getting to be quite hot there. The American River is mainly class 2/3, but further afield is the salm...

Also what is the length of it?
