Many thanks for all the work both of you have put into this incredible resource. As a user (under various names due to lost passwords) from the days where we could download the text content of the guides because there wasn't any internet near rivers I have more than had my money's worth! Re: Kokatat Bibs and Touring Cag

I'm trying to work out how the twin waist 'pettes and twin waist cag work together. Do you just put your deck between one or the other, or is there a fancy way that it all locks together?

Re: VW Sharan as a paddle wagon

We used to run 5 or 6 Sharans at an activity centre I worked at. Great paddle wagons. All 5 rear seats are the same (except location of seat belt buckle) so they're pretty much full size. Limited head and legroom in 3rd row, but survive-able for adults. Great economy on 1.9 diesel. Highly recommended!

Re: Dragging kayaks

I've got to admit I'm a dragger not a carryier on suitable surfaces. It saves my back and ankles, and I'm more likely to get out paddling. But I accept it will damage boats to some extent (although perhaps not as much as dropping it off my shoulder because I've stumbled). I do use a trolley when it'...

How about one of those sticky pads on the deck, with a bit of string round the handle as back up?

Re: Wings

Thanks guys. Lendal/Celtic were selling off some kinetic wings cheap on eBay so I just bought a pair. Good advice Graham about some coaching from pointy boaters. I have used wings a long time ago during a dabble with sprinting, but what my paddling looks like inside my head and what it looks like in...

Hej!

If it's a budget issue have you considered 2nd hand composite boats?

I paddled a Tempest 170 for years but now I have an NDK Explorer and the performance is worlds apart.

I don't know what supply of 2nd hand boats is like near you...

Watch out that mice and rats can't get in any holes you make. Mine is sprayed on the inside with an expanding foam type of thing which stops the condensation dripping.

Re: Tasman crossing: Kayaker rescued after distress call

There is a documentary on a guy who almost made this crossing within around 3km of the NZ coastline he disappeared never to be seen again, leaving a young son and wife, it a heart rending film. His attempt is way out there on the edge of what is possible. He survives some big storms unsupported in ...

Re: Anyone experience with Silva 58K compass?

I've got one that I used once and is for sale as I now have a fitted compass. I didn't spend long trying to fit it on the time I used it, but found that I had to put it closer to the cockpit where the deck is flatter. Other than that no problems. If Santa wants a second hand one point him in my dire...

Re: Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

... being afraid of burying the nose made me lean back, lose speed, end up on a steeper bit of wave, and therefore bury the nose. Neil, there are a few variables to consider. Are you referring to a beach surf-landing scenario or surfing long runners / swells out at sea on your surfski? What wave he...

Broaching your surfski…and how you can prevent it

an effect of the change in c of g is that the boat will move backwards on the wave...potentially to a higher and steeper spot, where your bow will sink further. I agree: I have been thinking about my recent issues in the surf and came to the conclusion that being afraid of burying the nose made me ...

Does anyone have any nifty tips for carrying other things on an easy load rack? I often carry 2 or 3 SUPs. I was thinking a set of uprights on the lower side, and an eye bolt on the upper. Thoughts?
