Re: Sea Quest now like new

So this was is dire need of refurbish with 17 years of beach landings and ferry crossings etc etc. It looks almost new now ready for more abuse. Nick is based in Emsworth (nr Portsmouth). He's not looking for more kayak refurbs at present as he's overloaded with bigger boats but might have time next...

If I ever work out how to add a photo I will.
It's pretty straightforward now, photos can be hosted on the site, just drag & drop into a window then insert into the post where you want them. See here for details.
I must be stupid as the photo does not drop into the post ?

Sea Quest now like new

Big shout out to Nick Gates for the work he's done on my 17 year old Sea Quest, its carbon hull is now like new. If I ever work out how to add a photo I will.

I use a waterproof Apple Watch 3 to track my blood glucose as I'm kayaking, its pretty neat. I'm not really into the fitness tracking bit.... The Apple Watch doesn’t track blood glucose, I assume you have something else connected to it that does ? Your being a little finicky - so technically my blo...

Re: Increased VHF range on your Kayak! GALAXY-INFL8

Indeed, VHF portable radios are roughly £100 depending upon spec etc so an extra antenna costing more than the radio would not make it a difficult decision.

An improved antenna performance will also add to the range but from experience its almost impossible to estimate as it will be location dependant ;-) Time of year & also radio propagation (sporadic e season) makes a substantial difference also any objects in between transmitter & receiver causing r...

Re: Increased VHF range on your Kayak! GALAXY-INFL8

Hi Shakespeare - thanks for the fast update :-). Looks like an option people could choose, what would the price be. Oh and your comment "its not safe to use mobile phone in open water", why would that be, I'm interested as I can't see any reason why using a mobile phone might be dangerous (perhaps t...

Re: Increased VHF range on your Kayak! GALAXY-INFL8

Its an SMA adaptor not a BNC, the linked pdf details it.

You'd need time to deploy it and then how well would it would operate if the connectors got wet during assembly.

Your no longer allowed to park on the pavement or part road part pavement, pretty sure its a national thing. Its to do with blocking pavements.

Re: Skeg Stuck Lowered

It will slide off, when I removed mine some years ago the slider was stuck and needed some brute force to remove it. I'm guessing somehow the skeg was dropped and then someone tried to push it back instead of using the slider in causing a kink in the wire somewhere, hence wire is stuck.

Re: River Stour - Canford School to Christchurch Quay

We kayaked this on Saturday, from Christchurch up (largely with the tide) to the weir at SZ 13413 94385. Angling Club signs on the footbridge below this weir back up Bournemouth Water's statement a few years ago (earlier in this comment chain) that that's OK. Chatted happily with a couple of angler...

Re: White Water London HELP

A lot of London based ww kayaking newbies from local clubs go to LV for coached sessions by public transport and hire kit there. No need for a car however it can take a while, (several hours), to get there and back depending on where you are travelling from. Indeed but finding somewhere closer for ...

Your nearest white water is Lee Valley, your nearest ww rivers are Devon and South Wales (all further away). As stated above your home location is not good for closer ww trips.

Re: Trip around the Isle of Wight

Between Calshot and Hurst Castle there are four places you might park and access, best you look on line for costs. Calshot, Lepe Country Park (might not allow overnight), Lymington and Keyhaven. There are places around Lymington and Keyhaven where you could park for free, if you do later choose that...

Re: Trip around the Isle of Wight

There are lots of places from the mainland where you can set off for the Island, and round the Island. Cheaper than taking a vehicle over to the Island, unless you want one there as a backup. Its often kayaked in an anti clockwise direction, travelling the south coast from the Needles to Bembridge t...

Robin its a while since I went but Gulf Air and Virgin used to take boats to India. If you travelled Gulf Air and joined their frequent flyer program you got double weight too. Jet take them as well but they are in large financial trouble.

I did that trip good few years ago, think there were 7 of us. We had a large van with 3 seats and a small car that would fit 4. We got all 7 boats and kit into the rear of the van but only couple of them were creek boats. We hired them at Trieste Airport.

Mosel touring

Some friends asked me if there was any information, suggestions, books, experience on Canoeing on the Mosel, Luxembourg / German border area.

Its not something I have any knowledge off, they will also take a look at google earth too.

Any info would be thankfully received.
