Re: Proposed Canoe Trail - Flamborough Head, Yorkshire - Your Thoughts Please

In addition to the points raised earlier any suggestion of staying a particular distance from the cliffs might place paddlers at risk. There are a variety of conditions such as minimal swell and strong offshore wind when it could be a safer and more prudent navigational decision to stay closer to th...

River Wharfe below Ottley

Does anyone know if any of the river Wharfe is navigable between Ottley and Collingham/wetherby? looking at the satellite images it seems that there are a few wiers and gravel banks. Dont mind Portageing over a gravel bank but would like to avoid any big wiers Would access or egress be possible off ...

One of my favourite memories was when in towed one of my kayaks to the river stour nr Canterbury, paddled down the river with the bike folded and trailer dismantled inside the kayak, and up the coast to Margate then camped the night, next morning paddled to Whitstable then towed it back to Canterbu...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

Thanks I like the chopping board idea. Just ordered a 16mm thick Tuffnol plate to use for the same purpose. Do you recon its worth packing the deck fitting recess with epoxy or similar? Or perhaps i will try and bolt it to the deck fitting as well with a countersunk bolt and pack the gap with washer...

Dont like DEET either.

So are you saying it's helpful to have one product for ticks and another for midges or is there something that will do both

self-rescue skills are still very useful in a group. It's often quicker and more reliable to look after yourself than to presume your companions are close enough, experienced enough, have the right kit and the current conditions are favourable enough to allow them to assist you when you get into dif...

Re: Hello and a few q's

Hi I also keep an open canoe (novacraftcraft prospecter of 17) and psastic sea kayak (vally Nordcap RM) outside in Yorkshire weather. The canoe is upside down on trestles in the garden and the kayak is strapped to a couple of all tyres. I think it is helpful to cover a Sea kayak stored outside. alth...

Re: Slipping foot pegs

Or very carefully tickle the bolt head with an angle grinder, noting that a slip will gouge the hull and if it is PE you may well melt a bigger hole as you go (steel gets hot quickly when ground). A little to risky fir my likeing. Ive put the boat on its edge and scrubed the spring and pivot while ...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

As kayaking with a sail involves recovery from a capsize with the sail attached, does anyone have any thoughts on doing this solo or rolling with the sailing rig up. I think I've seen some videos of rolling with the sail using a layback roll with additional sculling but can't remember where. thanks ...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

Hi flat earth sails i've just been reviewing your video about the Pace17 and fitting of "self equalising backstays" i'm a little confused as to what practical benefit this adds over less Faff and time spent equalising the tension on the stays. (in comparison to independently tensioned backstays) to ...

according to Karitek my sail should be with me this week :-) There are a few points about fitting that i am not entirely clear about. Re: Slipping foot pegs

Thanks for all your replys.
I've thaught of foam footrests befire but not sure if the bulkhead on a plastic boot could provide enough support or if it would be possible to reinforce it.

Last time I need to drill stainless steel i melted several drill bits!

Slipping foot pegs

The foot pegs on my nordcap RM have started slipping. Is there anyway to get these out without unbolting the slideing track from the hull so that I could clean / lubricate the spring.

Thanks

Would I want to be drinking water from a container or indeed a bite valve which was on my deck, and constantly being washed over? Not on the Firth of Forth for sure. I accept the bite valve on my Platypus, even mounted on my shoulder strap, will get splashed occasionally - I have swallowed plenty o...

The big thing to remember is not to over complicate things , designs with a minamalist aproch work best in most things I think I would agree and will try to resist the temptation to contemplate placing a spinlock cleat on my deck for the mainsheet to that end, would there be any merit in omitting t...
