I use a four foot rod which tucks under two tight deck bungies when not in use (handle only) and when I am trolling I tuck the handle down my pfd with the rod pointing over my right shoulder easy!

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

Hi Douglas I only took 40mm off so I would not have thought that would make any difference but it kept it clearer around the cockpit. Re the reefing compared to my yacht reefing I was quite happy with how the code zero reefed especially if I take the time to make a neat job of it. But I do agree ree...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

I have an Aries and felt the mast was a little to Long . I made it shorter by cutting some off the Top of the inner section this allowed the boom fitting To sit closer to where the stays attach to the mast. If I was to buy a other sail I would get the 1m I find The .8 a little under powered in the l...

Re: How difficult is kayaking with a sail?

The only time it gets tricky is if you are trying to sail to windward and its a bit gusty. But in MHO sailing to windward in a kayak is missing the point

I have been making my own paddles and have found I prefere no shoulder. But I also probably paddle with my hands to far apart , they are definitely outside the line of my shoulders.
I would be interested to hear peoples opinion on my hand position.

Re: P&H rope skeg

The skeg on my Aries was quite stiff . when I looked in the boat with a torch the tube the rope runs in entered the skeg box at a very Sharpe angle and did not locate properly so I took it out and heated a nice smooth curve on it . It now locates properly and runs smooth. It did annoy me that I had ...

I have just started making my own sticks.
I am six three and find 220 to be about right for me.
Even when using euros I ended up with 210 being my preferred length.
I am deffinately an advocate of shorter paddles.

I have an Aries and although I find
The c30 outfitting comfortable it is not easily
AdjustAble .
My point was more about comfort the
Seat in my explorer just did not
Work for me and as you probably
Know there is no adjusting one of
Those . Dont tell Nigel but I put a
C30 seat in that to.

I would be surprised if you can tell the difference in weight just by holding them . I paddle with a glass blade shuna and find it extremely light.
