Kit Found Taffs Well - 25/08/2020

As I am sure many of you are aware someone went missing on the Taff earlier today around Taffs Well. ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53904804 ) Very much hoping they turn up well unaware of what was going on. Some kit has been found "Following reports of a capsized canoeist earlier today on the Rive...

Re: River Taff - Quaker's Yard to Trefforest

There is work currently going on under the bridge coming into ponty. Lots of diggers and construction vehicles in and around the river, not sure how passable it is. An added danger worth keeping an eye on.

Re: Canoe Wales reply to Petition

Oh I would never suggest that CW and CT have done something to hurt paddlers without thinking about it. If more rivers start to be charged more, it means people are more likely to go to CT so extra money for them. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to my CW membership. I would ...

the definition of a "natural" river as one which has an uninterrupted and natural flow from source to sea
I hope not, because every river with a weir on it is suddenly open to charges.

young teen or OAP,
If you are neither a teen or OAP they are not interested however...

(Sorry I will go back under my bridge now! Canoe polo is really good fun, and keeps you very fit [normally end up feeling like I am going to be sick at the end of training])

Clean your roof first and put down some sleeping mat foam or simular just to protect the roof from getting scratched. The roofracks are made of quite corse material.

Re: Latex-free Drysuit

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to contact a few manafaturers and see if they are willing to do a a suit with latex free seals. I looked at the spark suit only to see it had latex wrists. I will look more into the reed chillcheater too, see if I can get some reviews on it :)

Latex-free Drysuit

Hi All, Hoping for some advice on getting a latex-free drysuit. I have an allergy to latex and every drysuit I have looked at seems to have atleast latex wrist seals. Does anyone know of a company that makes all of their seals out of neoprean or Nitrile rubber? I know a few places make latex free ca...

Would you be better off with a good quality synthetic? Down is great until it gets wet, so if you have a dry bag leak you could really be in trouble.

Re: Being Politically Correct what changes have you heard of

Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas using one's body and property to anyone who is willing to receive them. The willing to receive it is a very important part of free speech/freedom of speech. Having something publically named is not allowing them that o...

Re: Being Politically Correct what changes have you heard of

The difference is that Rape is an horrendous act that is forced upon another human being. It might just be a word to you but to some people it is the worst moment of their life through no fault of their own. Making light of that in MHO is just sick.

Re: Ethics of building in safety to nasty drops

Well that would depend on what grade and type of climb you were looking at, and indeed how far off route your willing to go to find worthwhile protection. I always thought that Malham cove was natural, no expert though. Is a massive lob off fine, just as long as you don't hit the floor? I think tha...

Re: Ethics of building in safety to nasty drops

Trad protection requires cracks or breaks in the rock, while bolts don't. Some bits of rock (mainly quarried) are very flat without and cracks, but still enough edges to hold onto.

Re: Ethics of building in safety to nasty drops

Well limestone gets bolted because it is usually in quarrys, and there is no trad protection on the climbs. Grit stone doesn't get bolted because it is soft under the outershell and would wear away quickly, making the bolts unsafe and you don't need to bolt it as there is trad protection avaialble.

CRB checks are only needed if you are going to be working alone with children or vulnerable adults. There are going to be very few cases that someone will be put in that situation on a paddling club situation. If it is through work it is likely the work place will have run a CRB check anyway. Forcin...

Re: Ethics of building in safety to nasty drops

The ethics in bolting climbing routes is a hard and complex one. Some people love them, other people hate them. Along with aesthetics there are other issues such as bolts failing (which a few have recently).
