Re: New Film: Too High
This isn't the usual "I'll watch it for 3 minutes while flicking between work and Facebook in my break" sort of online video. Its the "I'm going to sit down with some friends and blankets and some munchies and watch a movie" sort of film. Indeed. Plumbed the tablet into the TV and me and the kids w...

Re: J-stroke vs Stern rudder
In my experience it comes down to the 'reset' speed afforded by the 'J' over the 'goon' (every days a school day, didn't know that's what it's called!). As a whitewater kayaker first and foremost you tend to think that strokes are about power at crux moments, when canoeing it's generally more about ...

Re: Dealing with loss of ability and drive
Do you paddle for 'GoPro Glory', or because it makes you smile? You don't have to be pushing the very edges of your ability every single time you sit in a boat to be enjoying yourself. Anyway, kids will only make Grd2/3 a whole load more fun if you get a 16' Canoe for the family! (and they aren't th...

A bit closer to home - The Belford at Fort William
....seriously, some of my medic friends had a great time there and it does match your criteria. Not as 'exotic' as the foreign suggestions but it is some of the best boating in the UK. Pre-work run on the Nevis?

Re: bow stall conspiracy
Don't think about the stall, just get the flatwater cartwheel nailed first.
Once you can swap ends, making it stop is way easier than trying to figure out double pumping and at the same time holding it back a bit to create a stall.

Edinburgh? Not quite as full on as London, but there's still a few Banks and Funds based there. It is also an awesome city to live in, there's always something going on.

Re: Introducing your kids to paddling - What age ?
Depends whether you're talking kayaking or open boating? Kayaking, I'm minded to wait till they will be physically big enough, and strong enough to be able to do it. I'm guessing around 7-8 or older at the earliest. The only exception in my mind would be messing about in ponds for a quick short blas...

Re: Inflatable boat... plus toddler??
Get a 'proper' canoe! An inflatable won't be as deep for starters and much harder for everyone to move around/make an emergency grab so probably much easier to have a water incident. With a normal canoe the wee one can hang onto the sides, move around the boat, sit in a seat with Dad or Mum or play ...

Re: Reviving Rainchasers
I think the WTW colouring is based more around making the "joe average" who may stumble across the site think about themselves relative to the river - rather than simply being seen to be issuing an "instruction" of 'Go' or 'Stop'. Green to Orange defines 'Low but paddleable' (which is not the same a...

Andy, The Event Booklet which is available from the website has good info on other rivers if the Moriston isn't your cup of tea. Equally get a copy of Scottish Whitewater. For starters you can paddle from the Upper down to the Gun Club as many groups who didn't fancy the Upper did this year. Equally...

I got my Nomad 8.5 Brand Spanking New in 2008. Jumped straight in for a first run down a well known (to me) river.
