Re: RIVER SPRINT (Near S Bends to River Kent Confluence)

River Sprint - tree down on last bit of final large rapid (Sprint Mill Falls?). Hidden in last drop so inspect whole thing before running as BOTH channels blocked. I got away with going over far right of it but we had to pull one paddler over it still in boat https://media.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/up...

I was there with a couple of Sheffield Uni guys the same day but on the upper section. One of our guys swam and ended up helping you at the barrage!

Second for Calluna, amazing drying room, good kitchens in chalets and a bouldering wall on site. Also a short walk to centre of Fort William

Re: Sheffield kayak clubs?

Or try Sheffield University Canoe Club, they've also got a few older members- I just graduated and will probably be returning in the Autumn. They're also even friendlier than Hallam (the rivalry still runs strong apparently...)

Re: Cheap helmet? Please help me decide.

I never used to notice the cradle to be honest, as long as it's the right size (well fitting but not tight). Palm do send out bits of sticky padding to put on cradle though, being club helmets, they never got used. Worth checking that they would be sent by the ebay seller, have you got a link? Other...

Re: Cheap helmet? Please help me decide.

Our club uses AP2000's and AP4000's because they're cheap, pretty sturdy for low speed impacts (as a beginner), and have cradles inside which make them basically infinitely adjustable.

I'd recommend those for reasons above

Re: How to reshape a bent kayak nose??

Never had to try it but had a few people tell me hot water poured into the nose whilst the boat's vertical and the plastic will 'pop' back into shape. That's assuming it's not split - will need welding if that's the case.

Oh and invest in some bow airbags if you didn't have them already

Re: Wanted - ideas/offers of old school playboats/river play

Phil, that's what I'm thinking but nothing seems to have come up in the right place for me to try. I do seem to have a problem with legs fitting in slicier/play boats so that's the main reason I want to try out at least on dry land Probably at the Barrage this Saturday so hopefully there'll be a few...

Re: Any Varuns out there?

Cheers Andy,

I've tried the medium a couple of times but it's too big, mainly in leg length.

I am also after it being a bit 'too playful' to make me concentrate a bit... (whether this is a good idea or not only time will tell!)

Any Varuns out there?

I'm hoping someone near me has a small Pyranha Varun they wouldn't mind letting me sit in to see if I fit?

I can be based in Sheffield, Milton Keynes, Chester, Stockport, Shropshire, Tees Barrage and HPP

Wanted - ideas/offers of old school playboats/river play

My beautiful Nomad is starting to make the easier stuff a little tame now so after something to liven up the lower grades and WW courses for me. I'm 5'8 and 70kg and looking for something small and slicy, along the lines of an I3, Riot Booster or a modern version like Varun, Loki or similar. I'm not...
