Re: Left-handed paddlers

I’m right handed, but have always paddled lefty having started with 90 degree paddles and no one told me not too. The main advantages of using right handed paddles are borrowing paddles, replacing paddles when travelling and loading onto roof racks or paddle bags with friends. A lot of Norwegian pad...

Re: PYRANHA SHIVA (L) for Sale

Hi I'm selling it as I won't be kayaking in the UK this summer and it's sitting in my folks garage looking pretty. I'm down there next weekend and can take few shots of it if it's not sold by then. It's in good condition, with no dings and only be used a total of 10 times. If you fancy taking a look...

Re: Drysuits and air???

You want to get as much air out as possible ... the best technique is to pull the neck seal up over your mouth, breath in through your mouth and out through your nose until you're vacuum packed.

Re: confidence coaching

Hi Bare Foot Rose! Where are you based and where to you paddle? I'm a Kayak Coach and Psychologist using elements of NLP and Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, alongside other 'Inner Game' approaches, to boost performance and confidence. I rarely work with kayaking these days, but if you'd like to have...

The Typhoon drysuit rocks!

Super hard wearing, bit baggier with a 'funkier' cut on the legs, bomber zip ... oh, and super dry also!\

Re: Books and text on Mental preparation.

Some ideas: 1. The 'Inner Game of Skiing' is awesome and certainly influenced my coaching style. 2. Check out the NLP books ... 'Introducing NLP' is a good start. 3. The relatively new discipline of 'Cognitive Behavioural Coaching' offers some good stuff and there are few books starting to emerge. E...

Re: Kayaking strength building

I'm no personal trainer but have found this works wonders: PRESS-UPS (changing hand width) are great for strength of shoulders, chest, arms and core. SIT-UPS (Cycle-style) help you keep good technique through the stomach. FLAT-WATER paddling helps with endurance. BACKWARDS paddling helps with streng...

Re: Creekboat for a larger paddler

Totally convinced and love my EVEREST. Some how it's very big and very nimble. It's super fast, holds its line, but still turns on a dime. Accellerates on landing. Masses of foot room, masses of gear room, and solid as a rock. It's got some edge, but they're high enough not to get tripped on slides ...

Erme New Tree

FYI

There's a new tree just above the second dogleg in the gorge in the centre, running length ways in the river. It's unlikely cause much of a problem if spotted in advance, but it is quite dark in there.

Suggestions

Not a definitive guide by any means, but from past experience: 1. Good shoes are a must - almost all life threatening rescues I've been involved with were a run and grab/throw initially. 2. Keep all your rescue gear on you, as you're almost always in a rush - minimum 3 x screw gates (incl. HMS), 2 x...
