As an owner of a ww big dipper I can honestly say it's a fantastic paddle. Looks like next year's Christmas present could be a deep water paddle

Re: Left-handed paddlers
Why not use splits which can often be left/ right handed. I think you've got to let them use both and see which they use most naturally. I've a lefty friend who was forced to use a right handed one to begin with and struggled until she was given a lefty paddle Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapata...

I don't think it matters. How breathable is your BA, spray deck or any material when it's wet?

Use what you are happy with. I used my own kayak but cross over type. Check the syllabus and make sure you're happy ticking them off in your boat. At the end of the day having money to buy kit doesn't mean you can paddle, and good coach should be asking about your experience and assessing you from t...

Nichol end marina in Keswick sell it off the reel. I bought 50m off eBay last year for painters.

Re: What car for a sea kayaker?
Mine is keyless start but not keyless entry. I can push the button through my drysuit/ drytrousers but can drive the car without fishing out the key. Useful for a quick shuttle.

Echo the above really. Bigger estates with keyless entry. Look at the ones with 4wd if winter driving is a big one, plenty out there. If I knew I was driving in winter conditions I'd look at winter tyres too.

I'm based in Ulverston. Give me a shout of you ever want to meet up. Check out Cumbria canoeists. They have a website as Facebook group and often run sea kayaking trips.

It's a bit tight in places. I've seen canoes do it before. I'd be tempted to give it a go.

Nookie dry trousers with built in socks are a brilliant investment. When I started out I used walking waterproofs with neoprene socks and shoes to keep my feet warm.

Re: Insurance and qualifications
BCU cover you against negligence as far as I understand. So as long as you're a member your covered is my understanding. Arguing your case in court is a different matter all together. If your qualified as a coach or leader than your covered in those environments. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tap...

They can demand it all they like. Without a court order they can only ask. To be honest I'm the sort of person who, if at fault, will hold my hands up. Hell insurance might be cheaper if everyone was honest and didn't straight about these things.

Brathay pool near Ambleside maybe? Not exactly near though. There's a ww sup Facebook group created by Dave Hipwell who's local to that area. Maybe worth asking on there

Yeah, thanks here too. Thought it was nonsense too, but Professor Google tells me I'm wrong. Thats a job I need to do at lunchtime. Well thanks for the heads up. On a separate note, how many people realise that they need to tell their insurance company that they use roof bars because they are classed as a modification? If you have an accident and the other party takes photos and your car has roof bars on and you haven't told the insurance company, your insu...

Just to balance that out we did the same stretch on Saturday. Saw two people fishing together who gave us no bother but we didn't engage with them at all.

I'm booked on a course with Kelvin Horner of sweet skills coaching. Few people have dropped out so could do with a couple more to make it run. £140 for the weekend. Running in the Tees. First step for me would be removing all wood work and making that good.
Then I'd stick some airbags in and a seat and go for it.

Saw this the other day, must've been pretty scary to be very close. Stayed there for a week last summer and regretted not taking the kayak.

Typhoon are good and I've never heard anything negative about them. Look around for second hand bargains. Steer clear of cheaper ones like lomo
