Re: Greenland paddle size

don't get yourself too hung up about overall lengths. comfort between hand width and loom girth is probably more important specially if you've got a paddle with shouldered blades I've made about six sticks varying between 2200 and 2320 and in use I cant feel much difference, i'm about 6 foot 2 with ...

when launching from home I walk 5 minutes over the moor wearing mine like a long pointy hat , this often has a bearing on which boat I decide to use.

good to hear from you Norbert ,I think the 3M type of insect repellent can be helpful beforehand. and for removal I can't recommend the o'tom tick tools highly enough , I've allways got mine with me.

Re: Delphin 155 footplate

step 1 remove the unwanted ironmongery (remembering to seal or leave screws in any holes) step 2 cut a number of closed cell foam blocks to an interference fit . step 3 shove them in to place against bulkhead with the tootsies till its just right for your legs. you'll now have less available volume ...

quite true, in fact as decorative clutter a couple of Greenland paddles about the place could come a close second to a scaled down skinless frame like the Greenland boffin at our club makes.

Re: sticks?

Thanks for that folks, I intend to go down the laminating route, combining soft wood for buoyancy with harder stuff in wear areas. I did try some wings for a short while after the oban race last week, it felt like it would take a terrific amount of getting used to (although some folk did really rath...

sticks?

I see a small but increasing number of people using Greenland paddles as I do.
I came to wondering about what proportion of people self make versus buying.
I've made some for myself and was thinking of it as a possible side line/habit funding hobby.
your thoughts folks?
Thanks, Stuart.

Re: SOT leashes???

I gave this a wee bit of thought the last few times I've gone out solo. I've been strapping my waist tow from deckline to deckline in front of me leaving a bit of slack and fastening hook to tab of spraydeck/tuliq, taking care to not impede wet exit.

Re: Allunaariaqattaarneq - anyone doing this in the UK?

I have some down at my local launch point, they are good for making you wish you were twice as strong and half as heavy! for less pain use 16 or 18 mm line, for more comfort fit an 8foot by 2foot piece of net in between and fall asleep.

Re: North Shore Atlantic RM

i tend to agree with steve t on that i'm about 6'3" and about 15 stone at this time of year. i think a far heavier paddler would be fine in one of these but if you have big feet on the end of long legs its best to just use wet booties.

though it maybe fun to hide our kayaks in an empty lorry to feel you are getting a freebie, it may be the case that accompanied sea kayaks on trollies go free on cal-mac the same way pedal cycles now do
