Re: Open letter to CW

Oh dear, now they are going to make me and my young children (as well as many others and their families) park on the deadly road to unload our paddling gear and risk getting mullored by 60mph+ traffic. What a bunch of..........(please finish this sentence yourself!)

Re: Zet kayaks.

First time i tried a Zet was a month or so after they were introduced at Cardiff WWC and i think the UK too. I think they still hire them out there. Its not big volume water, its not natural, but its a pushy little run, good for trying out different boats, IMO. Had a blast in the Raptor and when it ...

Re: Ferry Gliding - Bad form - Let's stamp it out

Its not 'Ferry' its 'Fairy'! When your technique gets really good and youre able to add that little bit of finesse to your stroke, you please the river demigods and then from nowhere the little water sprites and pixies gently caress the bottom of your boat giving it lift which helps you glide acroos...

I tried GoPro cineform with Win Live MM and it was great for the first few days then it started glitching out. Not sure whether its the GoPro clips that are faulty or whether its Movie Maker. Re: A great kayaking helmet- just to put it out there...:)

If you ever pencil a drop and get pinned but your head is above the water, you'll survive with a solid shell helmet, the water will come over a drop and flow around the helmet, allowing a pocket of air to form in front of your face. If there's holes then the water will fall into the helmet, down yo...

Dont know where you are gonna be in SW but the Usk goes in low flows from Sennybridge down with the occasional scrape. Not so South though is it!

Re: A great kayaking helmet- just to put it out there...:)

You can get away with a lighter helmet when riding, and they need to shed a lot of heat, but theres too many big holes in it that are just waiting to eat up branches. Ooooh! No! Kayak lids need to be stiff and solid and thats where the extra price goes. Sorry, not for me!

Re: Rolling - transitioning from flatwater to rapids

The first step is you need to overcome the major differences between pool capsizes and WW capsizes, 1. the deafening noise which can be overwhelming and leads to panic. 2. the freezing water which can take your breath away. 3. the fact that the boat is still moving in the current which can be disori...

How tall are you? 194 is way to short. I went up to 200 two years ago and it has definately helped my boating progress and if I had the money would go longer now. "Nimble" sounds like you prefer to react to the river rather than choose your own destination. Obviously its only a small video, but a l...

Hmm, how many real Class V kayaking guides do you think there are around? That is go to any Class V river and guide for the putin. I may be know of a dozen or so across the world. I guess the remit is the way it is so you can show the assessor you can cope with a river you dont know but thats not to say you are going to take groups down rivers you dont know in reality, as you wouldnt have experience of that particular river in various levels and not being able to gauge correc...
