Re: RIVER DERWENT (Darley Dale to Matlock)

No restrictions, Matlock Canoe Club don't control the navigation rights! But if someone is obviously racing a slalom kayak through the gates, give them room If you want to make it a trip, the best launch is behind the Grouse and Claret at Rowsley, just ask the manager at the bar (with the promise yo...

Re: Buoyancy Bags for Freestyle Boats

I have found the shorter style bags are the right lenght, but don't have enough width the fill the back of playboats and wider ones have enough width, but are too long What I have done it to get a pair of long and wide ones and folded them almost in half, then inflating in the boat - they fill all t...

I managed to speak the highways man at the council and asked them to prosecute under the law mentioned above He said they won't as a prosicution will take too long ("if we took all the offenders to court we would not have time to do anything") - which I understand, but is a bit frustrating He confir...

The steering is usually done from the back, so the most experienced one sits behind

Also I find on my Jackson Dynamic duo the lighter the front person is the easier it is to steer

Re: how to become a navigation authority

What would be the point? Creating a Navigation authority for a river will not give you riparian ownership rights (unless you buy them separately) so you will be in exactly the same situation as at present - perfectly entitled to use the river but with no more rights to cross private land to get to ...

How the do you find out about local bye-laws?? After reading this http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/rivers/england/north-west/river-wye-buxton-to-litton-mill I decided to be a responsible citizen and found out if the fishing warden mentioning the bye-law was BS or not So I rang the county council t...

River Derwent - ambergate wire works weir

Has anyone ever run this?

We sat at the top yesterday looking down all the channels and couldn't decide is the wave at the bottom was caused by an obstruction or not

We ended up carry around (the really friendly security guard helped us out, unlocked the gate and showed us the easiest way round)

I must admit I am a little confused by all this If Anguts case is classed as 'public nuisance' and it can only be the attorney general that can bring this to the courts (with a £250k deposit) then surly it also works the other way around ie a fisherman cannot go after a group of canoeist without rai...

Derwent - Matlock Bath to Belper

We did Darley Bridge to Matlock bath yesterday and was wondering why there is "no canoeing" downstream of the slalom course.

Is it an access issue or some other reason? If it is access issues - who is the access issue with? Fisherman?
