Re: Lofoten - the drive
You could contact Lisa &Duncan Greene of Greene Adventures (other excellent sea kayaking guides are available) who do the trip, although their level of van comfort may or may not be superior to yours. Have fun. Would love to do the trip sometime too. Touchy folk though over there. :)

Re: Rolling in a pool boat harder than a sea kayak?
I really am no expert but I found the length of a sea kayak tends to stop the surface rotation putting more of the paddle lift into righting the kayak. In a WW boat I always end up pointing in a different direction and often failing the roll because much of the stroke goes into turning the direction...

Re: Shoulder pain solved
Oh well. There's no substitute for experience. I learned a bit from it though and my point, to tie it back in to the original post, was perhaps that good technique could be as important as whatever paddle to avoid doing damage to yourself. Instruction and feedback are important for good learning, bu...

If you have an hour and 13 minutes to spare you could watch Ivan Lawlers' Racing Kayak Masterclass http://richmondcanoeclub.com/members/kayak-technique/
Hope it's ok to make that link.
Plenty of food for thought. "Canoeing (kayaking) is not an arm sport".

Hello. Could you fill in some of the details of the Atlantic, such as where in the country you are and a guide price and colour (very important!)
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Re: Tent with a big porch?
The Vango Omega 250 fits the large porch criteria. Stood up ok to force 7 winds on Mull, but not freestanding. Also top of the weight range at just over 4kg. Not tried getting it into the kayak yet. Coming in around £130 it's great value, but I've only used it twice so not really tested for long ter...

Re: P&H Scorpio LV owners
The Scorpio is a snug fit. I'm 5ft7 and size 8 boots and I do feel I'm wearing my boat. Not much room for stretching out. But I have enjoyed the Scorpio as a boat to go from newby to 3 star. The newer mark 2 models have been altered to give more knee room (raised front deck/lowered rear?)I believe a...

I don't have much experience, but I went for a Typhoon max b. Glide skin neck seal, across the chest zip for entry, pee zip. Great quality, good value. Wetsuitoutlet have them at a reasonable price, for an extra fiver you get a fleece undersuit too. My preferred instructors have typhoon for their cl...

I'd be interested to hear how you get on PlymouthDamo with the Velcro modification. I thought of that and other possibilities, which is how I came across the Kokatat system. A good seal that wasn't bulky would be a winner.

Re: Salopette recommendations
I got the Peak UK Explorer salopettes with pee zip as well as the explorer cag to try and get maximum flexibility. The cag and salopettes both have elasticated flaps to wrap together to get a semi dry seal. And on testing it is only semi dry! Not bad but still a trickle. I see that Kokatat are now d...

Re: Knives
This prompted me to take a look at my knife, a Palm folding one with serrated edge, which has been in my BA pocket unused and ignored for the past year, through various salt and fresh water dunkings. It had a small amount of rust on and was a bit sticky to open. Not good in an emergency. I have it o...

Not that you might not get opinions here, but there might be more help if you post in the Kayak Angling section of the Community Forums. Happy paddling. (And angling).

Pointless. Fatuous. A bit of fun for the participants. A bit of lucre for the landowner. Highland Council sold out for another bit of unreal reality. But we knew that from the start. Grump over.

Merry Christmas all. Was "kindly" given for Christmas a copy of "Guide to the waterways of the British Isles" , a BCU handbook dated 1966. (Full membership 15 shillings). On the subject of midges it states: "these biting flies are often a nuisance to canoeists and campers in Scotland" and advises "S...

Welcome to the world of kayaking. It will draw you in! My best advice, seeing you are well placed near the Wye, is to join a local club first before you do anything. My local club costs £20 a year, provides boats, paddles, BAs, helmets, regular trips out, knowledgeable company and good safe fun. Som...

Riverguide for Oppdal and Around, Norway. Free to good home.
Hi. Anybody dreaming of heading off to Norway? Lucky raffle win, but no use to a sedate seakayaker like me. The pictures are amazing, and some of it is even in English (almost)!
