Sheffield kayak clubs?

Hi, My boyfriend and I have just moved to Sheffield and we're looking for a kayak club to join in Sheffield or vaguely nearby. We're interested in weekends away to paddle whitewater, maybe a few pool sessions and some people to go to the pub with. We both comfortably paddle grade 4, but don't do any...

Re: Drysuit advice

I wore a dry trousers and dry cag combo for years and found very little problem with it - I was rarely somewhat damp around the waist but that's it. It's definitely the cheaper option than a dry suit but I think, while most are completely dry to start with (if you buy decent ones), they don't stay t...

Lake District/ NW England low water options

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of low water paddles in the Lake district or around north west England? We're up in the Lakes for New Years and we've had a great first 2 days paddling - the Kent and Leven, but it seems like all the water's draining off and everything's look...

Thanks for the replies - I think I'm definitely leaning towards getting one.
I did mean the relief zip (sorry, I only realised I didn't specify when you said).

Any ladies got a Dam-X drysuit?

Hiya, Both my dry cag and dry trousers have started to leak at the same time so I figure it's finally time to just dish out the cash and buy a drysuit. I've heard a lot of really good things about Dam-X drysuits from the guys I paddle with - warm, very durable & long lived, and relatively inexpensiv...

Lost yellow werners on Upper Roy

Hi all, We lost a set of yellow Werner Rio paddles on the Upper Roy (saw them flow into the Roy Gorge) with a set of grey pogies attached on Fri 3rd January. They should say "University of Sussex Canoe Club" on them. If anyone sees them, can you give me a call/ message. My number's 07949701956. Than...

Re: River runner suggestions for a small paddler

Heya, I'm a pretty small and lightweight paddler too - around 55 kg ish (as others have said depending on how much cake/ pie I've eaten). I have my own Dagger GT which I find more than sufficient for most stuff grade III-IV - some bigger holes I have to power through where others seem to bob through...

Lift down to Lyon/ Briancon area 14th June?

Hi all, Due to a sudden car breakdown our club trip now has one more person than spaces in cars. Is anyone heading anywhere near Lyon/ Briancon/ L'Argentierre area on the 14th / 15th June? We're currently looking at having to book last minute flights which are pretty expensive! :( If anyone's going ...

Heya George & Beans Thanks for the offer but both of my guys have booked flights home now. We're heading out from the 14th - staying in Camping Les Milles Vents in L'argentierre, and 5 valleys in Briancon in the first week. Send us a message if you're interested in meeting up for drinking/paddling. ...

Anyone got space in a car from French Alps ~21st June?

Hiya all, I'm organising a uni kayaking trip to the Alps and we've 3 people wanting to leave after the first week. We'll be in the Briancon / Turin area and if anyone's got a space back to Brighton/ London/ Dover area that would be really great. We also have a car going back to Lyon if anyone could ...

Claerwen dam

Heya We're heading up to the wye on a club trip this weekend but it looks bone dry. We've seen the Claerwen nearby is dam release. Might be just because I'm trying to look it up on my phone but I can't find a page for it. Does anyone know when the dam releases? Or if there's a phone number we can ri...

Thanks for all the advice everyone.
I'm going to try trimming the couple of inches around the rip and if that doesn't work then send it to Rubberman like everyone's suggested :)

Thanks again.

Re: Girls getting ideas?

As a female paddler, I feel like everything has always been very equal in my uni club. I have noticed tendencies for female paddlers to be a bit more cautious than the males, and of course, there are a lot less women in general but none of the issues described by others. I'm very glad to never have ...

Advise on dry cag seal rip please.

Hiya, My dry cag seal has got a small (5mm) tear in it and I was just wondering if anyone has any advise about tackling this early before it gets any worse? I'm worried that every time I put it on, the stretching it to get it over my head is just going to split it further. It's been suggested that I...

Re: Iphone waterproof case

I use an aquapac and have had no problems at all with it. It's kept my phone and car keys completely dry, I can use the touchscreen of my phone while in it, though I've never tried making a call so don't know about the voice quality. Considering it costs £15-20 retail price I reckon that's a pretty ...

... when living in a van is a selling point for a guy who asks you out, and seems like a brilliant idea to sleep in on trips.

... you're tiny little 2-bed flat is completely full of kit, including a kayak and two bikes in the living room.

Re: Kayak Transportation Aid (2)

Sounds like a really good idea! As a short girl kayaker, anything that helps me get my boat on the roof by myself would be very useful! Same concern that others have posted though - how many boats can you fit on the roof with this? Also, is this an easily detachable system or is it securely attached...

Wanted: kayak for small female paddler

I'm a 5'5"" female paddler looking for a suitable size white water kayak. I'm moving away from my current club so won't be able to borrow their kayaks as much any more. I'm a fairly poor student though so looking for a boat that's not falling apart but for a decent price. Kayak's I've liked before i...
