Re: River running Usk in composite boat

Thanks for the guidance. Report Back. I ran the Usk both days with the NRW Llandetty gauge at 0.9 (Sat) and 0.81 (Sunday). Running rivers in composite is awesome, makes picking lines so important. My mates checked out lines with plastic boats, a definite bonus. Mostly not middle channel, but left or...

River running Usk in composite boat

I am taking my composite C1 playboat (Shaggy Design Sith) to South Wales this weekend. The levels have dropped since floods but still seem reasonable compare with two weeks back. How bony are the Usk and other local rivers? Will my boat survive? Any advice from local paddlers welcome.

Re: Not managing to pull a spraydeck

I have never seen someone not pull the tab, but I did have someone who had their tab trapped under the deck and needed hand of God. At the time this was serious. I now always check my own and other peoples' tabs. An experienced mate also showed me how to release a neoprene deck from side by the body...

Re: Lee Valley or Nene Valley

Depends how extreme you want it. Nene is a small course, perhaps grade 2 water, with a fun shoot of water half way down the course. You will have fun, but perhaps not have the adrenaline hit. Lee Valley Olympic (normally used for rafts) is a much larger course, grade 4 full on white water. You will ...

Re: Composite(?) slalom kayak repair questions

I am no expert, but my mate is and I have watched him repair my slaloms. What Chris says sounds a good approach for a more permanent fix. A quick bodge job to make the boat water tightish can be achieved with super glue on the crack, allow to dry and cover by Duct/Gaffer tape. Every composite boat I...

Re: Small car and travelling with a kayak help.

Fiat Panda, ideal paddle wagon. Five door, decent boot for size. Fiat do a fitted roof rack (across car roof rather than bars down length of car) as an extra, ideal. I have carried 4 boats and 4 people with kit, tight but possible. Only issue is some boats hit roof if facing downwards. Other bonus i...

C1 Cartwheel question

I can do a K1 cartwheel, but having trouble with C1. Front double pump fine, normally in K1 I would then rotate to stern and put in a front sweep to get second end, but I only have the C1 handle on left so no sweep possible. I end up with second end just but then capsize. I thought about switching i...

Re: Critique my roll?

I know this is slightly off topic and this may seem a daft suggestion, but a paddle float can really help with practice. You can practice all aspects of your roll together with the confidence of knowing you won't have the trouble of a wet exit. Great for a pool session as it does not take up the tim...

Re: Wanted C1 converted kayak for river running

Hi Chris,

Yes please. I could easily get hold of an RPM or Redline to convert. Thinking about it they are very slalom shaped, could be ideal.

Re: Wanted C1 converted kayak for river running

Thanks Jim, I will take a look at the cboating uk facebook group. I must admit I have only paddled a c1 slalom so the narrowness might be an issue.

Wanted C1 converted kayak for river running

I have been training in a C1 slalom during the summer and fancy trying some C1 river running. Does anyone have a reasonably priced C1 converted kayak. I am about 75kg. Thanks.
