Re: Contamination at the Burrs Country Park, Bury

I echo what Mike Duddy from the Salford Friendly Anglers has posted. The EA have responded quickly last time, in accordance with the protocol that we agreed after the incidents earlier this year. As far as I'm aware, the dead dog didn't have a post mortem, neither did the other alleged deaths. So, n...

Re: Searching for a William Nealy cartoon

Not sure if this is the one you're looking for, but "Kayaks To Hell" on page 10, has a small cartoon with a guy in shades saying "Pssst! - Hey Kid, wanna buy a cliff map?" I've looked through all my Nealy books, inc both "Kayak" editions, and there's nothing in them other than this. Also looked in F...

Re: Is BCU Insurance valid on private reservoirs?

And, believe it or not, you will probably have some cover under the contents section of your home insurance. Policies usually attach Liability cover to the contents section, as Tenants don't insure the buildings, but usually do cover their contents. Liability cover usually extends to the Insured and...

Re: IMPORTANT - Pollution Incident River Irwell

No Ombudsman that I'm aware of Rich, but there has been a meeting of the Irwell catchment steering group today, and the reporting and response of pollution incidents was an agenda item. I'll see what the minutes say, and whether a new protocol has been agreed. But, I've taken this to the MP's along ...

Re: WANTED : Bliss Stick RAD 195, Wavesport Fuse 64 or Jackson Superfun

Hello Chris,

I have an Orange Jackson Superfun for sale.
Very good condition, just the usual river scuffs, with happy feet fitted.
No sweet cheeks, I need it for my other boat (a 4fun)

I'm based in North Manchester, and I'm looking for £350.
Let me know if that's of interest.

Re: IMPORTANT - Pollution Incident River Irwell

Re ; The pollution incident on the River Irwell. We now have a statement from the Environment Agency, which I post below. Incredibly, this is being regarded as a "Crayfish Incident", pretty much disregarding the potential risks to canoeists, and other river users. No word at all about the lack of no...

Re: IMPORTANT - Pollution Incident River Irwell

Just an update on the ongoing matter on the River Irwell. I have now spent two weeks trying to get an update from the Environment Agency regarding the water quality on the Irwell, but with no meaningful response. The Catchment Officers are not forthcoming with any information, and the "Environment M...

Update - Pollution Incident River Irwell

Now, a further report on the ongoing pollution of the River Irwell and, more importantly for users of this forum, the conditions at the Burrs Site in North Bury. Here's a link to a webpage published today by the Mersey Basin Trust (of which the Irwell forms a part) http://merseybasin.org/anger-as-ri...

IMPORTANT - Pollution Incident River Irwell

I've just received this from one of the Catchment Partnership members for the River Irwell, in North Bury. The extent of the affected area takes in the Burrs Site on the River Irwell, and all the extended run down from Rawtenstall/Ramsbottom. "I am very saddened to inform you that a significant poll...

Trees Down On River Irwell

Just a quick "Heads Up" to anyone paddling the River Irwell from Ramsbottom to the Burrs site. The recent rains have brought a couple of trees into the flow on the river. The worst is a large tree, with many branches, at the bottom of the Gorge section past Nuttall Park. It's fallen from River Right...

If it's of any use, I could meet you at a services on the M62 to exchange. If you're still interested at £450, let me know, and I'...

Hello Jon, That'd make you around 14 stone(ish)? I'm about 16 1/2 stone. It's your call, but I'd have thought you were about the target weight for this boat. Jackson site says 165 - 220 lbs (12 stone to 15.7 stone) Sorry, can't go to £400, I originally thought about £500, but dropped it to £470. £45...

Hello Alan, No problems upon the Irwell due to the hotel collapse. It's all been removed now, and there's only one bridge over the river at Summerseat. The river has changed substantially after the January floods though. There's a fair amount of pebble deposition, and some of the old runs through th...

River Irwell At Summerseat

It looks like the run from Ramsbottom or Rawtenstall to the Burrs centre at Bury is likely to be a bit compromised for the foreseeable future. The former Waterside pub/restaurant at Summerseat was dramatically affected by the recent floods, and has suffered major collapse, primarily into the river. ...
