Re: RIVER MINT (Patton Bridge to the Kent Confluence)

Hi folks, WCG ran this at a very low level on 8-4-18. Level about 0.45 very scrapey in the first third of the run. Shortly after the first third, a small beck comes in from river left at this point there is a major tree completely blocking the river Even at low level it was a definite but easy porta...

Re: RIVER GRETA (Ingleton to the Lune)

Hi folks, On 18-8-17 Wigan Canoe Group paddled the Greta from Ingleton Bridge down through Burton in Lonsdale to Greta Bridge. This is a quality paddle that is very hard to get at a good level. The section from Ingleton to just past Burton was scrapey in places, but the second half of the run was ver...

Re: RIVER IRWELL (Rawtenstall to the Burrs)

Hi Folks, Wigan Canoe group paddled the Irwell from Ewood Bridge (SD 796 209) to Burrs on Friday 4/8/17 level 0.36. We knew the level was low, but made the best of it. From Ewood to Ramsbottom was very pleasant grade 1/2 paddling, with lots of small weirs that would need respect at higher levels. I ...

Re: River Calder - Martholme Viaduct to Ribchester

Hi folks, Wigan Canoe Group ran this from Martholme Viaduct to Whalley weir on Sun 30th July 17. There is room for just a couple of cars to be left at Martholme, any more would probably cause a problem.A flat section down to Cock Bridge ( you can launch from here) with just a few eddy lines to play ...

Re: River Crake

Hi Folks, Wigan Canoe Group paddled this on Sun 13/11/16 at 0.55 aprox. A very pleasant paddle. However there are two significant tree blockages. The first is after the first bridge you pass under. We passed this by sliding over it on river left. With another 0.2 of water you would probably paddle ov...

Re: RIVER LEVEN

Hi folks, paddled the Leven Sun 14th Aug 16. The tree hazards are still there. They are as previously described and the first one is just about hanging onto the bank, passable easily on the left at low flows. It will not remain in place in a big flow. The second one is downstream of Fishermans Island...

Re: RIVER CRAKE (Coniston Water to the Sea)

Hi folks, paddled this with a group on Sun 15th Jan 2012 at 5.4 on the EA Gauge, very enjoyable. However the fallen tree down stream of Spark Bridge is a major problem, and at higher flows it will be a significant threat to paddlers. Several of our group managed to squeeze around it,just!! on river ...
