Looking for paddlers keen to improve this winter...

Hi all Posting this hoping some of you might be interested in the advanced course below... I'm keen but as yet there isn't enough interest for it to run... Somewhere to park a vehicle during a trip to Scotland

A group of us are looking to combine into a single vehicle for a kayaking trip to Scotland... mainly for climate change reasons. Given we are starting from different places we’re looking for somewhere to leave one car for two weeks in September somewhere near the M6 between Preston and Penrith. Anyo...

Re: Leptospirosis

Thanks all. I've just started treatment for both leptospirosis and shingles since they don't have any idea what it is. My body is going to be a chemical warfare zone for the next week. You are right though - my GP had never heard of leptospirosis! Appreciate your answers all!

Hi Jon... join the Sea Kayak Cymru Facebook page, lots of trips posted, free coaching opportunities, advice etc. You may even be able to borrow a boat for a few trips if you ask. The page is all Wales, but is actually South Wales dominated. So also lots of people to paddle with. See you on FB and on...

Re: Peeing in women's drysuits, comparing the options

Kokatat back zip for me is the only answer. I can - with some difficulty- pee afloat. But don't think the menstrual aspects are easy even with a back zip. They aren't, at least not in my opinion. I find a corner - hide behind it and strip my dry suit off to expose all. Again TMI! But you did mention...

Karitek trolley

Karitek trolley used just once. This is a trolley suitable for sea kayaks and canoes and has only been used once. It's very robust and was recommended to me for expeditions - it is also not very light and doesn't fit in the hatches of my tiny Avocet LV. Should fit in more normal size boats. No longe...

Leaking skeg?

Hi all
My back hatch is wet every time I use my boat, and I'm wondering whether there is a leak around the skeg wire somewhere. I can't see anything or what I'd do if this is the case. Any advice? It's a Valley wire skeg on an Etain 17.1.
Many thanks, Tavi

Re: Surfing a Sea kayak..Advice wanted

I think once the front of your boat has dug in your on a fast track to a bongo slide! (Although you can then rescue that back to a surf again ...). I try and surf higher up the wave and angle my boat at say 11 o'clock (if the beach is at 12!), then with edge I can usually stop my front perling (but ...

Re: Rolling different boats

Paddles: No ... I use a crank shaft floaty foam-filled Werner on the sea and a straight (and slightly shorter) glass Werner on the river. Boat-wise ... my white water boats are a small burn and a dagger GTS (I always found the GTS very easy to roll - until now!). These are probably wider and the GTS...

Rolling ... Anyone else paddle different boats and find they can roll one easily but not the other? I paddle both white water and sea kayaks. I'm looking for a paddle partner or partners for a circumnavigation of Skye starting around 24th April 2016. The trip's absolutely stunning and around 310 km long. Typically 8-10 paddle days. Have you been yet? If you chat to people in the eddies everyone is very friendly and my experience is that you won't be paddling alone for long!
