I've got 2 16ft boats, A Valley Sirona 16.1 rm and an Epic 16x. The Epic has a full 16ft waterline, longer than some 18ft boats. I've regularly paddled both around Ramsey Island and the Epic will leave the Sirona for dead in most conditions, but the hull is based on a surf ski design and built for s...

Re: Sea Kayaking Clubs in South Wales?

Hi I'm a member of the Sea Kayak Cymru FB group despite living in Somerset. I joined a few years ago now as a very inexperienced sea paddler and was warmly welcomed. Now I'm a leader/coach myself. Yes the advice to join a club is good and there are a lot of "hardcore" trips now, but that's because t...

Great boats. I have one of each size LV, Club and HV, and at that price if it wasn't so far I'd bite your hand off. You shouldn't have any trouble selling.

Re: What car for a sea kayaker?

I had a Skoda Superb 4x4 estate TDI which I was getting over 50mpg with and a huge boot. Rear seats don't fold flat but I was ok with a thermarest. Great car. I've just changed it to for a Nissan NV200 van, removed the bulkhead and I've got over 2m behind the rear seat so have put in a camp bed, wit...

Be interested in trying this.
I paddled a composite Whiskey 18 and the old style XP18 K1 and was impressed. My first sea kayak was their 5o5 which was massive!

Wanted cheapish Tandem Sea Kayak

I've given up ever getting my wife into a single but she's more open to the idea of a tandem. Naturally I don't want to spend a fortune in case it's only ever used once. There are a couple on Ebay - a Point 65 Duo £1000 Looks nice but more than I really want to spend. Prijon Excursion £475 or offers...

Re: WANTED - Dagger Stratos

Hi

Are you still looking for a Stratos? If so large or small? I have a large for sale, hardly used. £550 but based in Somerset so a trek for you.
I am heading up to Scotland on 15th with a friend and can ask him to carry a boat for me to free up room on my roof rack.

Foot wiggle room

I've paddled both and I had loads of room in the HV and was so tight in the standard both feet got cramp and I couldn't wait to get out. I'm size 9.5 and was wearing lomo boots.

Re: New to kayaking, advice please

If the roofbars fail and the tie downs don't you could still end up with the boat down the side of the car and interfering with the wheels which doesn't bear thinking about! Tie downs are to stop the boat going backwards or forwards only and if the rack or bars fail the tie downs will then be slack ...

Re: New to kayaking, advice please

If you use front and rear tie downs (I don't) again make sure they're just tight enough and no more or you'll bend your boat. They are there simply to stop the boat moving, nothing more.

Re: Valley sirona vs delphin vs dagger strattos

I've got a Sirona RM and Stratos (both sizes) I also have other boats, plastic and composite. The Sirona is my go to boat for a normal day trip with some rockhopping and surfing. I would say the Stratos in either size will turn slightly quicker due to being 18 inches shorter, but then it's also slow...

Fresh water - Treshnish Isles

Hi

Heading up to Mull for week and hoping to camp on Lunga. I know this used to be inhabited so am assuming there's fresh water there.
Can anyone confirm this please and where it is.

Thanks

Re: sun protection

Another vote for P20 it does also come in factor 30 but still called P20. I use it on the water and at high altitude where the uv strength is very high and also reflecting off the snow. Just make sure you put it on about 30 minutes before you need it to work.

Re: Wanted - Sea kayak for a complete novice apr. £300

Most clubs will let you borrow (hire for a nominal fee) boats and all the kit you need, so it doesn't have to be on a set day. I would start with a club and try as many different boats as possible. You will find most people, once they know you will also let you have a paddle in there own boats, and ...

Pretty easy to find your own way about. I paddled Gairloch, Loch Ewe and Guinard Bay solo and it was great.
I did pick up a leaflet for the below but never used them. They do sea kayaking and canoeing
