Re: St David's rescue^

Before I go out, I need to comment on Kayakandbeer's comment that I don't know what I'm talking about, because I transcribed what Taran said as "if we had been closer to shore". To me, it doesn't matter one bit. Some places, it's safer closer to shore, other places it isn't. Now, how on earth does t...

Re: St David's rescue

Wrt "sensibilites": It seems I'm not the one around here who are so sensitive that any criticism means that noone will respond, that criticism in general is considered harsh, and that criticism, even on things already said, is a no-go when it comes to criticism. "It's keeping people from posting". I...

Re: St David's rescue

The point is that you go over and over and over and over the same point over and over and over and over again. Of course I do, since some people seem to be dead set on misconstruing, misrepresenting what I say, and are more than willing not to understand the points made, but would rather rely on ba...

Re: St David's rescue

one thing I have noticed time and time again is complications occurring when groups get split. With one part of the group not knowing if the other group is OK or needs assistance. In such situations I don't think anyone could argue that its better to be safe than sorry and contact the CG if possibl...

Re: St David's rescue

Maybe not everyone would agree that having someone in the water constitutes a serious situation. Maybe people running and participating in a course, one of the aspects of which is practising dealing with people falling in the water, would see this as anything other than serious. You obviously haven...

Yes, aren't we all above criticism. Noone is to blame for anything, and everything is always handled just perfectly. And, especially, if they post on these boards, obviously, they are perfect, and not a bad word about anything they did or say can ever be held into a bright light. Unless, of course,...

partly because of people like you No one takes Oarsome seriously, and you'll notice very few bother to reply to his stuff. Don't worry about it. Yes, we mostly like yes-men around here. Re: St David's rescue

Hi All, Firstly, may I thank Taran for initiating this discussion. Clearly, there are many Sea Kayakers viewing the thread. Mostly, average weekend paddlers like me who can make errors. Re: St David's rescue

Theres a hell of a lot of emphasise on the weather here which is odd considering none of you were present. That's the stock answer to shut down any criticism around these parts. Re: St David's rescue

Let me preface this by saying I don't think Taran did anything wrong in the situation. And at the risk of infuriating some or the other as I seem to be doing every other post around here, I do think that the situation was appalling. It shows to me, just how ridiculous the title "coach" can be, and h...

Hmm, my "heavy weight" Lomo drybags doesn't fail in the cold, and as of yet, their "lightweight" haven't failed either.

But, anyway, have you considered Watershed drybags? They even make soft innards to protect gear.

I'd pass you mine, but I bit all the heads off in angst. I read somewhere that women who have had children are more likely to bite the head off, than women who hasn't had children or men. WHat is a traveller? This is all sounding technical now. No it didn't. Apparently you don't know what a strawman is. Besides, I wasn't strawmanning your position. I don't know how large a camera bag you need, and in what weather you intend to use it, but I use a 3 litre "lightweight" (it's not, really, but it's the red one) Lomo drybag I have shortened a bit from the top:
