Re: 2019 Plastic Kayak Options or just go composite?
As a solo paddler I endorse Charleston 4's advice. I, too, simply want to paddle and have fun, I made the decision to have a plastic Atlantic because it would take a lot of punishment - it has. However, I do not have the worry of repairs or of being ever so precious about launching, landing or explo...

Re: Roof mounted carrier
Have used the same set of AJ foam cradles for the last 6 years with no problems at all, they are cheap, simple and effective. To prolong their life and stop the keel being abraded by sand embedded in the open cell foam I stuck some Karrimat to the upper surface. This also allows the boat to slide on...

Re: Knives
Mora Companion F Rescue Knife - has a blunt tip, serrated edge and made of stainless steel. An excellent rope cutter and with the blunt tip spreads peanut butter and jam very effectively. Carriied on left shoulder of BA in its flourescent sheath. For those who have qualms about fixed blade knives an...

Re: Sandy Skeg
Duct tape is your friend! Use the tape to cover the skeg box working from the front to the rear leaving enough surplus to make a loop. Make a loop in one end of a 2 metre length of cord and thread the surplus duct tape through this and then press the 2 adhesive faces together. Attach the other end o...

Venture Islay 14 SOT vs Triumph 13
I am thinking about one of the above for short coastal trips and some fishing, the Islay with the built in skeg is my theoretical preferred option. Currently neither are available to demo but I will have a paddle in both before making a decision. Are there any owners out there who would like to comm...

Re: Hobie Revolution 16
An update for those interested in this new boat. I have been in contact with Chris at the Canoe Shops Group (http://www.canoe-shops.co.uk) and he anticipates having a Revolution 16 demo. available in early 2017.

Hobie Revolution 16
Has anybody got they hands on one of these yet? I am particularly interested in their stability and performance in rougher sea states (5-6). I currently paddle a sea kayak but a deteriorating, arthritic shoulder means that my conventional paddling days are coming to an end. Have read the reviews, bu...

Excellent Service and Product
Thanks to Ronnie at KCS for the advice and Expedition Trolley which arrived today. My DIY trolley "died" and having read the reviews about KCS I decided to upgrade. Wish I had done so earlier!

Re: GPS
I bought the simplest I could find, a Garmin Etrex 10. It still can do so much more than I can figure out but at least I know exactly where I am - OS Ref or Lat/Long - at the push of a button, which is all I wanted. Shop around, there are some good prices out there.

Re: beach pebbles jamming skeg
Mask the skeg slot with duck tape, and attach a length of line from stern end of the tape to your cockpit area. Once launched pull tape off using attached line and check skeg operation. Not my idea but seen somewhere and handy particularly if solo and launching from shingle.

Re: Help with Sea Kayak
Recently bought a 15' Perception Expression having used anEasky 15' on a 4 day introductory sea kayaking course. It certainly feels like a step up from the Easky but thats just my opinion. I use it on sea and freshwater lochs and for some coastal paddling. Been very pleased so far, good capacity or ...

Re: Carrying Kayaks on a Car Roof
If carrying a kayak right way up and bow forward what aerodynamic effects are experienced? Will a large amount of "lift" be generated resulting in higher wind loading on the rack and its mountings? Would it not be better to mount the boat stern first to present a more aerodynamic profile producing l...
