Re: Playboating techniques?

Carlos's book provides some nice pictures, and a pretty good overview of the moves, but like most resources does lack a little with troubleshooting issues with your moves. It's always worth setting up a camera and comparing yourself to other boaters if you can, certainly the most effective way to wo...

I've seen some pictures that suggest palm have something new, based on the FXr platform in the works, but with much better pockets than the FXr. I'm waiting for that before I upgrade from my venerable Aquavest

Re: Are you better at kayaking if you do other adventure sports?

Being a freestyle kayaker who went skiing for the first time with other boaters, being able to understand edge, weight distribution and similiar certainly helped. However we do tend to lead with our heads, which did make for some entertaining falling over when I was trying to carve

Re: From rock gardens to rivers - advice please

All of the boats you've selected seem suitable for what you want to use them for. Or you could pick something cheap off ebay for use in the river/surf?

Typhoons aren't much more expensive than the Lomos, and are much more sturdily built.

Don't forget the Zet Raptor, or even a Dragorossi 88. Personally I feel that in the Creek/River Runner category, the Raptor is one of the better choices you can make, so it's worth a try!

Go to a local diving shop, they should be able to attach a latex or neoprene seal fitted to your neck size :)

The red evo stick works fine, Green Evo Stick 528 is rumoured to last a little longer around water, but I've used both and can't really tell the difference

Indeed, this certainly highlights the utility of a legacy/back channels style course, especially when the course is of class 3/4, and much less accessible to beginners to kayak on

Re: First time to N-Wales, some advise?

Somewhere in between Bala, Bewts-y-coed, and Llangollen will put you in good stead to reach most north wales rivers. I've generally used Tyddyn Bychan, with it's fun bbq hut, however there are many paddler friendly places around. Remember to check rainchasers.co.uk for level information (although it...

Re: Side Sculling Advice Please

Just dont. It puts your shoulder in a very exposed position, and has minimal practical use. However, if you're falling out of the seat, remember to grip tightly with your knees on the thigh braces/cockpit rim to keep you in the boat. Maybe check with your rolling if you feel your bottom leaving the ...

It's not a bad map, we found in some areas it didn't have calibrations which RiverApp did have, however between the two a fairly conclusive list can be made
