Re: A question about the Soca Siphon Canyon, and who should do it.

Lets say that the "leader" of the group has 5 years of experience paddling on whitewater and has been led down that section of river once, the year previous. So they are an experienced boater, with prior knowledge of the section Let's also say that this leader is not known for taking sane leadershi...

Honestly, I would have a chat with British Canoeing, they could probably sort out one for you to borrow for a bit to introduce some paddlers

Re: waterproofing

I don't think PTFE would work very well, it's designed for sealing on the threads, rather than giving a face-seal like we get with washers on a kayak

300 should get you something like a 2010 allstar or a wavesport Project X, which is much more mordern, and will set you up better for loop-based moves

Re: Is it true that.........?

It appears kayaks imported from the USA into the EU are subject to a new 25% tariff, as part of the on going tit for tat trade war. Those Dagger boats made in the UK are not affected by this unwelcome development. To my understanding possible solutions being consider are the borrowing of the mouldi...

Re: Are Zet / Pyranha / Dagger footrest bolts compatible with Riots?

How old is the magnum Most canadian made Riot boats have imperial threads, whereas I think the newer, made in china stuff uses the standard M6. I'd say that your best bet would be to take it to yoour local canoe shop and ask them, they'll probably have a few various bolts and things for you to try..

Re: Gd 2-3 in the Oetz area early August

Thanks for the replies. Not seen rivermap before, it's pretty good, with more easier sections marked than riverapp. Any other recommendations anyone? Up to maybe a couple of hours away from Oetz? Cheers If you're looking for something further away, you could try the Eisack/Iscaro in Sud Tirol? Or t...

My gut feeling is that the ripper will be better, as it's got harder rails in the midsection and stern.

If you're looking for a tailsquirting river runner for the surf, I feel your best bet might be the Soul Gonzo, just look at those rails!

"You don't need any back support †, provided you have back support ‡" To be fair, I think he's actually saying you don't need back support provided you have bum support. The question should perhaps be how far up your back does the support need to be / is it best to have it? I experimented when buil...

Re: Do you need a backband?

I fear this may be more of a comment on the quality of Pyranhas backbands. I personally replaced mine with a foam block, however the backbands in Jackson/GuiGui kayaks are much better for freestyle. These do a much better job at transferring force into the boat when cartwheeling, and keeping you sat...

Carlos's book provides some nice pictures, and a pretty good overview of the moves, but like most resources does lack a little with troubleshooting issues with your moves. It's always worth setting up a camera and comparing yourself to other boaters if you can, certainly the most effective way to wo...

Being a freestyle kayaker who went skiing for the first time with other boaters, being able to understand edge, weight distribution and similiar certainly helped. However we do tend to lead with our heads, which did make for some entertaining falling over when I was trying to carve

All of the boats you've selected seem suitable for what you want to use them for. Or you could pick something cheap off ebay for use in the river/surf?

Don't forget the Zet Raptor, or even a Dragorossi 88. Personally I feel that in the Creek/River Runner category, the Raptor is one of the better choices you can make, so it's worth a try!
