Re: Waveski school in France/Spain/Portugal?

Italy any good? https://www.adrenaline-hunter.com/en-GB/provider/blackwave-surf-school/1903 Thanks, I did spot that one, but despite their claims that zone gets decent waves maybe 1-3 days a year ;) Atm thinking I'll just head to SW France and cruise between Lacanau and Hossegor (or something like ...

Waveski school in France/Spain/Portugal?

Hey there,

Does anyone know of a waveski (or surf kayaking) school somewhere like French Atlantic coast, Portugal, etc - basically anywhere in mainline Europe within a day or so drive of Austria? Struggling to turn anything up on google...

Thanks!

Petition to save the Ötz

Probably a few of you have already heard, but construction of a hydropower scheme is currently underway on the Ötz at Tumpen - despite current the fact legal proceedings and at least two appeals are underway, judgements are still outstanding, and no official approval for the construction has been gi...

Re: Burn, Machno, 9R???

I've been paddling a large Burn for years and love it, but my friends tell me that I'm behind the times. Should I move on to a more modern design? I tried the Machno on my local river. The big advantage of the Machno is the enormous bow which seems to be able to rise over anything. In general you f...

Re: french alps snow levals

Most of the Alps are having a pretty poor winter so far, though parts in the south (as in the south side of the main alpine ridge, not just the very southerly tip in France) still have a decent base left from heavy November storms. Been one of the mildest and driest Januaries for a while though. But...

It looks a bit like the River Lui, which would make sense as you can park at the Linn of Dee to walk to it Check out the top of the drop in these pics - https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/rivers/scotland/north-east/photos/river-lui EDIT - I spotted the left / right arrows above to see the rest of ...

Flew back to Scotland a couple of weeks back with a boat. Found out Edinburgh Airport car hire (having pre-paid) that my driving license expired over a year ago... Got caught out about 10 years ago by massively rising levels on the Upper Dart just as it started getting dark... Got out on the wrong s...

Yep the Verzasca, and Poke has it exactly. I believe this one's called Lucifer's - deceptively gnarly, and just above the cave drop.

I think the Ardez is a deeper/rockier gorge than that. Could it be the middle Sill? If you have any other photos showing the mountains more clearly it might help.

Re: Gd 2-3 in the Oetz area early August

Untere Sill near Innsbruck (one g4 but easy to portage; Ruetz gauge is more relevant as that's the river you actually start on), Loisach near Garmisch (quite technical though), Isar I think is supposed to be easy but pretty, Imster Schlucht on the Inn, I believe the Lech has some easier sections,

Re: Snowpack in Italy and France this year?

Any thoughts on high water options around Verzasca/Val Sesia?

Was thinking about heading over from Tirol this weekend to get back in the habit of drops and higher boofs, but levels atm look a bit more 'boof or die' (or at least beater) than the usual waterpark style...

Re: Snowpack in Italy and France this year?

Whole Alps are in tip top shape. Western Alps (Chamonix, Verbier) have ridiculously deep snowpacks at altitude, less so lower down. Probably include St Anton/Arlberg region in that. Main Tirol not quite so outrageous ('cos our dumpage happened more November/December then it slowed down a bit whereas...

Immersion Research drysuits

My faithful Palm Torrent (purchased in 2008) finally died last summer, so I need a new drysuit before the kayaking season kicks off again in the spring. Re: Nose cones |?

That's kinda the point: they couldn't make something radically specialised, so have to make conventional creek boat designs better* to win. Which stifles actual true innovative design. Ie we're stuck with tiny little iterations of the same tired old designs rather than anything truly creative innov...
