Re: kids BA vs spraydeck

As a club we use children's nylon and neoprene decks for the dynamo. To start with in the pool before going outside the choice was the child's, being supported by a coach.
When ready they very quickly used the neoprene deck.

Ran it low, 0.38 , no portages. Very nice woman let us put in through her garden! The normal get on had nettles and brambles and I was in shorts.

I have had 2 different mates watch paddlers walk over the crops, and drag boats over the crops. When approached about it they didn't give a dam.

Re: River Usk - Talybont to Llangynidr

Warning for Mill Falls. River left just after the eddy under the house noticed a rock just sticking up out of the water with a circular hole in it. The hole is wide enough for a foot and leg. Would be horrible if arm or leg got threaded in it. Never noticed this hole before. The level today was 0.9 ...

Re: Your best cock-up (not carnage)

Back in the day, mainland Greece. The maps we had were shocking. Ran one river. Next river, next valley. You had a 3hr 200km drive to the next get on. As if by magic a brand new road appeared. 100 % brand new road funded by the good old EU. Looked to go in the right direction, up and over to the nex...

Re: River running Usk in composite boat

Mill Falls section, I use NRW Llandetty gauge. It is 0.9 at the moment. Down to 0.75 I will run it in my canoe, down to 0.7 I will run it in my kayak but not any lower. Below 1.0 the rocks start to show and easy to leave plastic behind. At the moment none of the tribs of the Usk would probably go? H...

One blast only to get someone's attention in a noisy environment.
Six blasts I need help. Keep repeating.
Three blasts I heard you, keep repeating your six until I get to you.
Don't wave two handed at a plane/helicopter, 2 handed means in distress, help needed.

Re: First aid kit - do you carry one

Always carry the basics, as small as possible when with mates . I encourage mates to all carry something so no one has to carry loads. Also if my boat is lost the only first aid kit is not lost. If I am leading and responsible for the group I carry a bit more. I do a first aid course every 3 years. ...

Ran Mill Falls sneak today (Sunday). The gate has barbed wire all over it. Going to take a piece of carpet next time to protect drysuits and boats. Level lovely 0.9, however Llangynidr bridge, second arch from left is blocked by a tree. At this level no way through that arch. Saw two fly fishing. No...

This bloke is trying to cause all sorts of problems. If his ideas are not countered some people might believe them......

Interesting that this is the same fisheries owner that will hire private security guards to stop you paddling that section (see recent Powys county council meeting re Glasbury to Hay). Haven't seen the hazards, but wonder if said person put them in the river to stop navigating? Just speculating. Jason
