Re: Advice on drysuits

There is nothing to compete with the Kokatat drysuits. They are mind-numbingly expensive but the performance is in a whole different league. The Typhoon Multisport is an excellent alternative.

Re: Mazda Bongo freetop owners/kayak loading

I use these to put the kayaks on: http://www.ajkayakequipment.com/page2.htm You put these directly on to the roof bars front and back, then put a simple bit of matting/padding over the leading edge of the roof/windscreen to protect it (I use an extended North Shore paddle float but something like an...

I do hope this isn't going to get competitive...
Considering I'll be in the Cetus you provided Pete, how could they compete?

Re: Paddle advice needed

Thanks for your feedback and some interesting thoughts there, particularly about dealing with tough conditions with an unfamiliar paddle which would indeed make life very hard - I found swapping from a cranked werner to a cranked Lendal hard enough. Think I will go with my original plan of using a s...

Paddle advice needed

Here's a question: Shortly to embark on a round Britain expedition (along with the rest of the UK paddling community by the look of it!). Clearly I need a spare paddle to back up my Werner Shuna crank and I thought a good solution would be one that's straight shaft and small bladed to vary the stres...

Re: Video about gear and cold water

The point here is that finding the compromise is the hardest part of clothing selection. Of course, when separated from our boats in a cold sea (and I sincerely hope that never happens to any of us) we'd like to be dressed in an insulated drysuit, with additional thermal layers on underneath. Of cou...

Re: Grommets (what grommets?) on Lomo paddle float...

Pump didn't last long for me either sadly. Don't want to get in to a Lomo bashing session as I'm a big supporter on the whole, their attitude and approach seem very good indeed and my boots, shorts and knife have been faultless and an absolute bargain. My pump is unusable however. It takes an inordi...

Re: Grommets (what grommets?) on Lomo paddle float...

My Lomo float started to separate down the sides so I glued it together, not great. It was an absolute pig to inflate and I couldn't understand why, on looking inside the mouthpiece, I could see large lumps of plastic in there presumably left over from the original moulding process. Removed these an...

Re: barometric watches

Good point. I have yet to find an electronic device (without GPS) that knows where you are and therefore what tide time it is looking for. My advice is to use the 'TidesPlan' app on the iPhone (may be on Android?) which doesn't require a connection to work and covers the whole world. It also gives y...

Re: barometric watches

I've just bought a Casio ProTrek 2500 which has Barometer, Compass, Altimeter, Thermometer, Tide Graph, is radio controlled (time sync) and solar powered. I've yet to find the button, but I'm also assured it tells the time - possibly. I've only used it for a week but the main reason I bought it was ...

Re: Best kayak for UK circumnavigation

Before I start, can someone confirm - The original Cetus was suffixed HV when the MV & LV were brought out? If so my own boat is a Cetus HV, and I was able to demo an Etain 17-7 during the summer. The new Cetus HV is not just the classic Cetus with the words HV stuck on, they have redesigned it all...

Well thanks everyone for your input - in the words of the film "It's been emotional." So I'm not sure I'm any further ahead with the decision other than to have received some extremely generous and selfless offers of help - much appreciated. Guess I'll just have to demo everything and see how it goe...
