Model sof kayak

A friend recently bought this 52cm model skin on frame kayak at a car boot sale in northern Sjaelland, Denmark. The person selling it had no info on its origin or history, but said the skin was wolf fish. My friend is a retired naval architect and would love to more about it. http://i1186.photobucke...

Re: How do you store your sea kayaks

Three storage solutions that might be of interest are shown in the pic. http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z376/dowdrey/storage%20options_zps6mf4cjhq.jpg There is a homemade wall cradle for the Scorpio, padded suitcase stands (chucked out by local hotel) for the ply Shrike, and slings from the roof...

Re: Camel Estuary kayaking?

The Camel is my local paddle, so here goes. First check Mark Rainsley’s South West Sea Kayaking for all sorts of good info and advice. A couple of new additions are the two areas of black surface floats for aquaculture, one just upstream of Porthilly Cove close to the east bank, another downstream o...

Re: Why we turn on the top of a wave.....

And another Shrike is there providing a stable enough platform for a not particularly experienced kayaker to consider waving a camera around. And without taking a swim as his reward. My shrike really did seem at home in the conditions. Great design - thanks to Nick and Christopher for all their insp...

Re: Renovating an old Nordkapp HM^

I had a go at restoring a P&H Umnak (serial number 11, built late 1978 to early 1979). All the advice on previous restoration threads on this site, especially this HM thread, were really helpful, as were Pat and Piran at P&H in Derby. I got the boat in Sept 2010 for under £200. After a few paddles o...

Re: Blowing cobwebs away.

Inspired by this thread and a cracking day, I ventured out of the Fowey yesterday. http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z376/dowdrey/Fowey15Mar41_zps93f4e2a9.jpg Came across a sort of horizontal blowhole that helped blow the cobwebs away. I've been past this point several times before over the last f...

Re: Waterproof camera - Fuji Finepix XP100

I've had a XP51 since August and have been pretty pleased with it - easy fit in BA front pocket, easy to operate with cold fingers and good range of exposure/subject options. Only issue to date has been sticky locking sliders - my fault for not washing it off in freshwater - and a bit of belated rin...

Re: What the ...?

Thanks Chris. That's got to be it. I'd tried a few text searches, but as wireless sonar hadn't crossed my mind they turned up nothing. Interesting that many of the images show "wireless sonar" or similar words on the battery hatch ... our yellow submarine wouldn't have been half as intruiging if it ...

I tend to pick up floating litter (got a bit carried away on this occassion ...) http://i1186.photobucket.com/albums/z376/dowdrey/camel11mar01.jpg Especially keen to remove anything with line and hooks attached. Usually it’s pretty obvious what it is, but this recent find had me stumped. http://i118...

Re: Which compass?

Thanks to PlymouthDamo I've now got a usable compass in my Scorpio LV for next to nothing. Did the ebay thing and got it in autumn, but only got around to fitting it a couple of weeks ago. Discovered that half a plastic drain pipe on a baking sheet in the top oven of the Aga converts itself into a u...

Vintage (1970s) rudder and paddle

Ottersports rudder assembly and footbar/yoke. White nylon housing/fixing and aluminium blade. Footbar/yoke is part aluminium and part grey plastic covered with connectors for rudder lines. No rudder line (originally was plastic covered s/s wire but heavy gauge fishing line works well too). In good c...
