Wanted - ICF C2 sit & switch

Looking for an ICF sit and switch marathon C2, currently have a Wenonah Jensen 18 ultralight Kevlar that would be willing to P/X - otherwise happy to pay full amount in cash. Looking for something not too heavy or tatty with a view to doing DW in it next year with the missus! Anyone got one that the...

Re: dwrace 2013

Fell shoes work pretty well, only problem being keeping your toes warm if it's cold - sealskinz socks help.

Re: DW 2012

We ran all of Crofton and all 3 at Froxfield and that was definitely enough! Definitely quicker than paddling though as some of the guys that had overtaken us prior to the portage had to overtake us again after! It's strangely satisfying being one of those annoying C2's that you have to overtake aga...

Re: DW 2012

C2 is a bit different (that's what we're currently paddling), quicker to get in and out of, more of a struggle to run distance with than a K2. We find that using the handles is plenty quick for shorter stuff but a bit tiring on the arms for the longer ones. And as for running with it on the shoulder...

Re: DW 2012

To compare walking/running with paddling/portaging you need to work over 1.1 miles which is the distance most crews that run Crofton will do. Personally I haven't seen anyone carry on running down to the last lock - you have the added obstacles of gates/stiles to negotiate if you do! My partner and ...

Re: DW 2012

Well, the Met Office nearly got the weather right, only the wind direction a bit wrong. Very 'interesting' start, first time I'd paddled in the sea! A bit of proper heavy rain, followed by sleet to the finish. Rude awakening for some people who seemed to be dressed for the spring-like winter we've m...

Lovely weather forecast for Thameside 2 tomorrow, looks like wind's going to swing round to the North, probably just in time for Henley straight!

Please be aware that there is an update on the DW website asking that anyone who intends going for a 7am start lets them know. I think they want some idea of numbers.

Re: DW 2012

Regarding information for supporters, I have found the following site; http://dwsupporters.2day.ws/dwsupporters The postcodes I've used so far aren't always 100% but they'll get you somewhere close. As far as GPS is concerned, I can recommend the Etrex, my wife has been using one on her K2 for the p...

Re: 2 seater kayaks required for Devises to Westminster ....

I have a Mirage 3, definitely had repairs done, don't know how sound it is as it has been painted - it has overstern rudder fittings but no rudder, I also don't have any seats for it. It is of glassfibre construction. £20 and it's yours whoever wants it! Collection only from Reading area.

Re: DW 2012

I've bought some Innov8 x-talon 190 that are a lightweight fell shoe. I have trimmed the rear studs and my heels are pretty much as close to the hull as they would be in anything except socks. Whilst they don't have much in the way of cushioning the studs act as shock absorbers on any hard stuff and...

Re: DW 2012

I shouldn't worry too much about a mud-swamp - we were through Dun Mill a couple of weeks ago and the portage now seems to incorporate a stile! Quite entertaining with a K2, it'll be even more fun on the Watersides!

Re: Henley marathon course map

Hi there, last time I did it the course certainly did include the 'North Sea'. Div 7,8,9 went downstream from the start at Eyot, round Temple Island and back to the finish at Eyot. I believe the other divisions carry on downstream to portage Hambledon and turn below it.
Sorry!

Re: DW 2012

Just looked at the tidal predictions for Richmond for April 8th. These give a high water time of 03:38 GMT, high water Teddington is supposed to be about the same time according to PLA guide so 04:38 BST. I guess the optimum time would be about 5 in the morning and it's a 5.1M tide so should be fini...

Eliza Dolittle, as you say - how many others will it put off. Apart from ourselves, there is div 7 k2 that also won't be entering - they would have been sharing transport with us!

Re: Latest Hasler Tables

Mass start div 4/5/6 for our first div 6 race? Perhaps not, we'll just give it a miss and have a long paddle locally instead. Shame really 'cause we quite fancied it. As we have better things to do than find out whether the rumour is true we just won't bother entering, well done Andy Rawson!

Re: DW2011....

Congratulations to everyone who took part in this years race, however far they got. Ivan and Ben retired at Cookham with tendonitis I have been told, what a shame after doing what they did in the Watersides. I have never seen so many pleasure boats out and about, one of our club crews got held up at...

Of course he's a madman - why else would you paddle something like that in the watersides? I don't suppose I could get one stroke in without a swim!

Re: 2011 DW.....Golden nuggets

Personally, the most important things gained from doing the Waterside and Thameside races were an accurate assessment of race speed over the different sections of the canal and river, including portaging, and practice for our support crews. This enabled us to work out an accurate race schedule, with...

Re: 2011 DW.....Golden nuggets

Barmy - Golden Nuggets. Training - no substitute for time in the boat, we were out about 4 times a week, supplemented by gym sessions and rowing ergo sessions - I guess a paddle ergo would be even more effective. About an hour 3 times a week and then a long one at the weekend - we built up to 7-8 ho...
