Re: Football or kayaking ?

A lot of people say they maybe understand playing the game, but not watching other people play it. There are, however, a lot of kayakers hanging out here on a kayaking message board doing pretty much the same thing. My take on it is that I feel genuinely sad for people that don't love football. I do...

Re: Football or kayaking ?

It's great to see someone talking football on a kayaking message board, but I predict you'll get flamed by the 'I_hate_football_what_is_it_with_grown_men_chasing_a_ball_around_a_field?' mob. I presume you're not seriously asking why nobody in Catalonia is supporting Spain in the World Cup? I don't t...

Rules on the AA site don't say anything about the lights, but there is a requirement for one warning triangle and one viz jacket per vehicle (not per person as stated above).

Oh to hell with this. My nerves are shot standing over the tumble dryer for 20 minutes, checking constantly.

And I've now broken about four clothes pegs...

I've given up and hung it on the line and NixWaxed the bejaysus out of it instead.

Re: Tumble Dry Suit

OK, having read lots about all this, I finally threw my Kokatat GoreTex drysuit in the washing maching (30 degrees, no detergent/soap/liquid of any kind, sealed inside a pillow case using clothes pegs). Seems clean now. It still doesn't bead though, so I'm going to bung it in the tumble dryer. My qu...

Re: Boarding flight with paddling gear

My top tip is to clip your helmet onto the outside of your handluggage bag. I've done this a few times (both long haul and short haul) and never had an issue. ... If it comes to it, you could wear it, or perhaps argue that you can't leave it at the airport as it's a vital piece of safety equipment....

I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again: The Wind In The Willows by Kenneth Grahame. The Rat said nothing, but stooped and unfastened a rope and hauled on it; then lightly stepped into a little boat which the Mole had not observed. It was painted blue outside and white within, and was jus...

Re: Kayak airbags why do you need/use them?

What Luke said above and also that an unmanned kayak drifting down a river will be more likely to get damaged by collision with rocks if it doesn't have airbags. One with airbags will float higher on the waterline and 'hit' less obstacles. Other than that, airbags are useful for keeping your gear fr...

To clarify, I'm not too bothered about the 'waterproofing' - I don't intend to dunk the camera in the water. The problem I'm trying to solve is that the camera develops moisture problems over the course of a typical damp Irish boating day. I though the casing might solve that, and it sounds like it ...

I have a Sony DCR-HC38 video camera: http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/img/718x407/DCRHC38.png Trouble is that it gets the old moisture problem after a while on the river and decides to hibernate for the rest of the day. As long as everyone in the group uses the same set of signals, it should be OK. More worringly is when you meet people who don't have any signals at all, as I met recently. I was patting the top of my helmet (which to me and everyone I know means 'Are You OK? / I'm OK') and I got completely blank lo...

Maybe Shaun Baker's continued high-profile is a localised phenomeneon in Britain? I can't imagine he gets that much coverage in the US for achievements all that time ago? I once had to get myself and my Inazone to Liverpool Street station, in London town. I hid the boat behind a post box and flagged down a London cab. The cabbie laughed when he saw the boat but said if I could get it in, he'd take me where ever I wanted to go. It just about fitted in.

Global kayaking calendar/planner?

With the recent talk of people planning trips for next year, I was wondering if, anywhere on the web, there's a list or calendar of the kayaking seasons around the world. You know how at the start of every guidebook there's a section explaining when the country/region is running - is there a one-sto...
