Re: Sweet Protection drysuits
My experience of Sweet service has been very poor. Fantastic products- beautifully made, excellent fit. No clear service strategy at all in the UK and apparently internationally too, to the point whereby alternatives start to look a lot more appealing. For information I own a Sweet Drytop and Sweet ...

Re: BCU 3 star assessment questions
Duct tape is hopeless for repairing wet surfaces. I'd suggest something like Denso tape: https://www.affixit.co.uk/Denso-Tape/Denso-Tape-50mm-X-10M.Html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpuSJ2vC_3QIVqLztCh3TXQGcEAQYASABEgL_j_D_BwE In terms of my repair kit I carry: Leatherman tool Denzo tape Cable ties Plastic off ...

Jetski/Powerboat groups
Twice this summer i've come across groups of powerboat users or Jetskis. The first was at the Skerries off Anglesey where 18 powerboats had gone out for the day from Holyhead with the subsequent impact a group of 18 powerful boats all travelling in convoy would make on a special conversation area. S...

Re: Puffin Island Advice
Two of the biggest areas for coast guard call outs on Anglesey are: 1.) Cymyran straits 2.) Puffin Island Both can look utterly benign under certain conditions, both can be incredibly dangerous with a combination of wind, tide and swell. When incidents unravel on the water it's scary how fast a day ...

Re: Reverse polarity in compasses
Interesting. One of my pet hates sea kayaking is the compass recess kayak manufacturers put in place for the Silva 70p. I just find it far too forward to be of much use as I struggle to read it so much (wear glasses but i'm not that blind). However being that far away from hopefully mobiles, GPS, VH...

Reverse polarity in compasses
Great article on UKC. https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/skills/reverse_polarity_-_a_warning_to_compass_users-5385 Worth thinking about? especially with compasses often held close to VHF on a BA or the new front day hatches where GPS, Phones, Compasses often all get parked together... Anyone got an...

Re: Tall and advice needed!
Hello. I am looking to buy my first kayak but at 6ft5 I need some guidance as to which kayaks to go for. I'm looking to do coastal kayaking in a sit-in boat and am hoping to get more adventurous so speed and manueverability are my priorities. I am based in Suffolk and am struggling to find a local ...

Re: Safetrx - New CG and RYA vessel registration and tracking system
Grumble grumble back in my day etc etc There are plenty of sea kayakers out there who were around "in your day" - you know, when we hunted whales to the brink of extinction and kids died of diseases we can now cure. Decades on, lots of us 'old gits' have embraced new technology and appreciate how i...

Re: Safetrx - New CG and RYA vessel registration and tracking system
In danger of sounding like an old git.... Am I the only one who goes kayaking to get away from mobile phones? I'm happy to let the CG know my plans before I set off- my contact details are currently on CG66 (which will be deleted in 2 years time i'm told). I don't really want them tracking me or for...

Many thanks!

Epoxy repairs in hard to reach areas
Has anyone any advice on how to get neat internal cloth and epoxy repairs at the very hard to reach ends fore and aft in a kayak?
I can barely get my head inside the hatch to see where the repair goes!
Wondering what solutions people use?
Cheers

Just out of interest are those that above have expressed anti 'organised' qualifications do you get out regularly to practice rescue skills/boat handling, re-entry rolls in conditions, leading groups you don't know, towing etc? Re: Tiderace Xceed - anyone know anything about it?
Many thanks Aled. I'm fascinated by the seamless finish and look forward to seeing the boats when they start to arrive in the UK. Echo- I'd suggest you take a look at the Xtra. They really are magic on the water and an equivalent size to the Xcite-S. Either that or wait for a seamless Xceed-S! Cheer...

Cheers!

Re: Is the Valley Nordkapp LV no longer in production
I believe not. 2nd hand or trying lots of dealers for new 'old' stock might be your only way forward.
Valley did have one or two models left in the warehouse when I phoned last year but it was a while ago- give them a bell and see what they say.

Re: Towlines - no more carabiners or floats
Interesting! My main worries would be speed of deployment. I like my carabiners because it's just an unclick, click then paddle. Is there not a lot of faff? In a gully a quick rescue is pretty handy! I have 0.5 metres of elastic looped 4 times tied off with a double fishermans for shock absorption w...

Need to do 3 out of 5 modules then apply.
3 x 8 hrs = ~£400-£500?
Worth it?

Hello, I've got a problem with my boat (whose make I'm deliberately not being forthcoming with). The cockpit rim has broken away at the and I have approximately 1/2" of movement in the plastic rim.
