Re: CAMPING and TICKS

I once read a post (can't remember where) from a Scottish forestry worker, which said spraying socks and bottoms of trouser legs with TCP effectively repelled ticks. I've never tried it myself.

If you don't like DEET, what about citronella based products? Are they effective against ticks?

Is there a "Greasy Spoon" in Dulverton ?

Hi all, I'm going to Exmoor on a club trip this weekend. We're self catering in the Dulverton Residential Centre but I can't be bothered to take stuff for breakfast in the morning. It's been quite a while since I've been there, so can anyone tell me if there is a "Greasy Spoon" type cafe in the vill...

P&H Capella 166RM Corelite, Blue

Hi All, I'm selling my trusty P&H Capella 166RM polythene in blue. It is the original P&H, 3 layer Corelite version, which is stiffer and generally superior to the newer, single layer version sold under the name Capella by Venture Kayaks. It is probably about 7-8 years old and has seen a fair bit of...

Pyranha Inzone 232 - £200

Hi All, I have a Pyranha Inazone 232 for sale in red / orange. It's a great all round boat and a well proven design. It's been stored in my garage for about 7 years but has only been used a handful of times. It is in very good condition but does have some scratches on the hull, as should be expected...

Re: Group shelters

I bought mine online from here:- http://jdscomponents.co.uk/ Basic but quite adequate construction and reasonably priced. The seams on mine aren't taped but I don't think that's a problem, given the amount of condensation that occurs when several people are in there. I use the 6-8 person one when le...

Re: purbeck campsites

I've used Tom's Field near Langton Matravers a few times and it's pretty good. They have a website you can Google for. You can get to the sea at Dancing Ledge by following a footpath from the site for about 20 mins (partly down a steep hill).

Have fun,

Re: Close encounter of yet another kind

Hi Nick,

Did you manage to get the registration number of the aircraft ? If so, you should report it as a near miss to the FAA. You can probably do it via their website. They will then take it up with the pilot, to make sure he takes greater care in future.

Cheers,

I'm still using a Vango 1l flask I've had for about 20 years. It's just brilliant. Fill it up on a Friday night and the contents will still be hot on Sunday lunchtime. I used to keep it in the side pocket of my army bergan when parachuting in the TA, which was the first thing to hit the ground, bein...

Re: wild swimming

I saw this and thought it was very good, apart from one glaring omission - not a single mention of access and the problems associated with it. In the introduction, Alice Roberts said that there are thousands of lakes and over eight thousand rivers in the UK so she was "spoilt for choice" of where to...

Another vote for Ortlieb - A3 size for me. Easier than trying to take charts out, refold and put back in on the water.

Re: Waterproof A4 document box

Ortlieb do A4 and A3 size document bags. I use the A3 size as a waterproof map case. Google "Ortlieb A4 document bag or case" to find retailers. I think the A4 size is about a tenner.

Re: Advice Required!

I'd recommend you pop down to Woodmill Canoe Shop. It's in Woodmill Lane, Swaythling, Southampton ( only about half an hour from Winchester). They usually have loads of demo boats you can try out on the Itchen behind the shop or on their lake. They are good for advice too.

Good luck,

Re: Hip pain

Hi Mike, If the pain persists and you can't sort it by changing the outfitting / position in the boat, do get checked out by a specialist. Don't do what I did and just put up with it. After two years of doing that, I finally got checked out and found that I had well established arthritis in both hip...

Wanted - P&H Capella 166RM

Hi All,

I'm looking for a used P&H Capella 166RM (the three layer type, not the Venture Kayaks, sigle layer).

I'm willing to pay around £700. Can collect from anywhere within 80 miles of Portsmouth.
