Changing a backrest

I have the older style perception Carolina with the bucket seat (same colour as and part of the kayak with drink holder thingy) and high backrest - fitted into small slots at the side of the seat and screwed with a 1 inch strap It can get rather restricting feeling like an armchair I have also just ...

Re: Getting a Kayak safely on/off a transit van/minibus

I think it is going to be a no go at the moment, the driver has no no ncb due to only having a company car for the past 20 years so insurance quotes coming it at around £1100 - £1600, far to much for us to consider at the moment

Re: Getting a Kayak safely on/off a transit van/minibus

Does the extra height cause any issues in windy condition? Extra height will never be a help, but it's really no different to having a hi-top motor in the first place, and there's plenty of them around... As well as the height reduction for loading, it's the increased reassurance of having the cont...

Getting a Kayak safely on/off a transit van/minibus

Shortly we will have to replace our car and are toying with the idea of a mini bus/transit van for space for our ever expanding gear - camping/trails bikes/kids/dogs and such like Only problem I can see so far is the height for getting the kayak on top (perception carolina 14) and possible extra exp...

Re: SOT versus SINK

I paddle solo but try my best (much as it annoys me sometimes) to keep within my comfort zone. My comfort zone is probably more mind over matter but I love paddling on my own. I have 3 mobiles (of different networks) that I always go out with, 2 of which are just cheapies bought for that purpose alo...

Re: Recommend a tour/guide for Falls of Lora/Etive

I will probably do it in my Carolina 14, not quite a sea kayak but a bit bigger than a playboat, although I would not be against trying other boats either. I'd like to have a little of both, a good play in the falls then a little touring around but could tour around on my own I will go with Tony, Ha...

I'm after either a guide or a tour on Loch Etive and to go through the falls, Solo paddler who doesn't want to do them on my own :) Will be in the area 2nd - 9th June 12. Is Seakayak Oban my best bet or are there others

Thanks in advance

Hi, A paddle much over looked in the Werner range is the Tybee...its a bit cheaper than the others I believe, its for a mid range high angled paddler, I use them with crank shaft, the carbon infused ones, very good. cheers Ran I have a Tybee and have been very happy with it, I think Werner still ha...

I had a very similar thing happen in high winds in may (rather bloody scary it was) not with thule J's but same style of double bars and metal bracket, the company sent new J bars and I now always carry a spare set of cradles (Admin Edit 5/9/2011 - to add link the the post relating to this - here. )

Re: Kayaking in Lincolnshire

We've narrowed the campsite down to Stickney, other half has to have dogs allowed, free fishing, campfires allowed and electric hook up which are few and far between

Confidence is my biggest problem, I always paddle solo which does not help but it also keeps me from getting into trouble, I err on the side of caution, push myself a little but only if I feel safe and usually relax after a while,

I own a Carolina 14, Its very stable and tracks well (I've found no need for a skeg) Mainly paddling in large lakes/lochs and the sea (west and east coasts) and it always copes well, I did have to raise the seat a little for a better fit but have done nothing other than that to it, Can't compare it ...

Despite a good start to the trip the weather deteriorated more than was forecast, so at about 50kms from shore it was mutually decided to go no further. We were very wet with the possibility of hyperthermia setting in and now know that it was the right decision to return. The paddle back was very h...

I class my self as heavy, but strong paddler. I understand exactly what you mean on boat speed versus effort to achieve it. Interesting reading.

Any ideas on the closest place to Newcastle upon tyne to demo?
