Re: Greenland Paddles: Carbon Fibre vs Wood
Duckworks boat builders supply, (USA) sell excellent carbon fiber ferrules. I know of a dozen paddles made with them (two of them mine) and all have stood up to anything thrown at them.

Re: West Cork - recommend me - -
Mike, I expect the Symposium to be well attended by local paddlers who will have the low down on the area, also there is a link on the I.S.K.A. website to the PDF version of Oileain, the area you want is around pg 99. If you can get your hands on a print version it is far superior with maps, picture...

Re: Rhinoplasty on an Anas Acuta
I would go with kernowpetes suggestion, my ocean cockpit Anas is already nose heavy and a bit of a pain to solo carry without adding a bunch more weight at the worst poss spot, I had two identical mini sea kayaks for my kids except one had the filled nose repair you suggested, they always fought ove...

Re: Hatch covers
I was lucky and a outfitter at a symposium here stocked them, I believe "System X" carry them and have outlets in Germany, (Google is your friend) They are a bit more expensive, but (I believe) they are worth it.

Re: Hatch covers
I only use SeaLect Designs hatch covers on my Valley boats, got fed up with the originals rotting. Also if your rim is "recessed" in the deck it can be fiddly getting the Valley ones to seat properly, at least it is on my Anas anyway. Kajaksport used not to make covers for Valley rims, don't know if...

Split Greenland paddle ferrules.
Gday, Just a heads up for those who like to make their own wooden split Greenland Paddles, the folks at "Duckworks b.b.s." are now supplying carbon fibre ferrules with an outside diameter of 38.6mm. as opposed to the more common 30.6mm o.d. This gives you a lot more strength at the join, also they l...

Agree with Mike, or if buying a new one, id recommend "sealect designs", not cheap, but instantly sorts your snug fitting problem, and much easier to put on/take off with cold hands. Haven't had mine long enough to be certain, but i understand they dont break down over time like Valley ones can.

Hi TG.
Very interested. What was the semi carbon Greenland?
13.75 kg sounds more like S.O.F. sort of weight.

Cheers Ulrik, just what i needed to know, I am getting on a bit, and have a gammy leg, so lighter boats are becoming a lot more appealing. Curiously regarding your suggestions, my current stable includes an elderly Anas (heavy) and a Tahe Bayspirit (lighter) both of which i like very much for their ...

Been using similar Aldi ones for a while now. Replaced the iffy cord with 8mm rope, and fashioned strap slings. Mounted 2 pairs approx 6ft apart on my shed ceiling directly over where i park my car. Raises and lowers 2 boats straight onto/off the roofrack. The business.

Re: Advice Polish 'Baltic' sea kayak
Examined one last year and it seemed pretty poor quality and very lightly built, then again it was very cheap. Unless they have improved a lot I would not want to be out in one in anything other than benign conditions. They made another model called an "explorer", absolutely no relation to the real ...

Hi Wenley,
Would love to hear your opinion of the Qanik, and even more so of the Sea Pearl should you manage to get your mitts on one.
cheers, Dave.

Re: Latex V. Neoprene
Thank you gents for your info and experience, but do any of you have a suit/cag with 'Glideskin" neck/cuff seals, is it a new and improved type of neoprene? or more of the same. Better for comfort than watertightness.

Latex V. Neoprene
As in Drysuit neck and wrist seals, i need to do a lot of rescue and rolling practice, and would like to avoid that session shortening icy trickle. Some of the claims ive read for 'Glideskin' neoprene seals seem too good to be true. I know the neoprene neck on my old semi-drysuit hardly keeps out the...
