Worth running a finger (carefully) around the coaming to make sure there are no rough or sharp edges.

Re: Is Palm gear really that bad ?

I have a Kaikoura buoyancy aid and an Aleutian cag, both of which have been excellent. My mate has an Alaska cag, the update to the Aleutian, which he describes as "The best bit of outdoor kit I've ever bought".

Re: Laminators

I have an A3 laminator and stocks of laminating pouches in a variety of sizes. I have often found it useful to trim several pieces of paper to fit side by side and back-to-back within a single pouch. Remember to cut the corner off your paper before laminating it. That way, once it has been laminated...

Re: Greenland style paddles from China?

I've just received one of Mikes cedar paddles and it is a beautiful piece of work. Lovely to paddle with as well. It weighs the same as a carbon Northern Light..
Me too, the Inua model. Highly recommended.

There is some useful information here. At this time of year, parking shouldn't be too bad but for the best spots it pays to be early. It's a pleasant trip. Enjoy

Re: Hiring sea kayaks on Shetland

I don't know whether he rents out boats to independent paddlers, but I can heartily recommend Angus Nicol of Sea Kayak Shetland. I spent two highly memorable days paddling with him in Shetland at reasonable cost. If there are three of you then the cost of guiding, which includes all equipment, shoul...

Re: Corryvreckan incident

I'm also with Jim on this. In particular I am struggling to envisage a situation where a paddler would remove his buoyancy aid and wetsuit whilst in the water. I have no desire to be judge, jury or executioner, regardless of the facts of this case. The safety warnings given earlier in this thread ar...

After a recent thread on here (justifiably) criticising jet-skiers for pestering seals, it makes uncomfortable reading to see a news article about a sea kayaker pestering a whale. :-(

Re: Which VHF radio to buy?

I too have an Icom M-71 which I am very happy with. I don't use an Aquapac, but keep it leashed in the pocket of my BA. It won't fit there in an Aquapac, and as I frequently paddle solo, I want it with me should I get separated from my boat. At the risk of hijacking the OP's thread (although I'm sur...
