Re: Whitewater raft WANTED!!
What size raft are you looking for? What is your budget? Will you be running a paddle raft or be using a rowing frame? Do you want to keep the boat and bring it back to the UK? As has been suggested your best option is to rent something locally - that is if you can find somewhere. Lomo is an option ...

Re: any lifeguards for hire?
Is there an option to hire lifeguards who already work at the pool? I might suggest making up a poster and dropping it to the local recreation centers asking if they can put up in their staff rooms. Lifeguards are often employed on 0 hour contracts and always keen for a little extra work. Good luck ...

Probably not the footage you're looking for, but this was on Saturday as well. There is a log in the top drop which pushes more current to the left. The boils below can certainly catch you out!

The Palm Alpine has been the bag of choice for me for a while now. It's comfy to hold, easy to pack and on target when you need it most! Don't just take my word for it..

Re: Knife Rope or Nothing
I had a search for 'knife' in the fairly comprehensive American Whitewater database (Summary box of accident section). https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Search/view/ A very rough look at the data reveals... 1 clear incident where a knife was used to cut a spraydeck and free the person. Prob...

Re: Things I see on the river during my travels.
I saw the Americans use the same technique below Husum Falls. Paddler > Cowtail > Throwbag > Belayer. It seems to make sense for grabby holes which might hold a swimmer. Particularly those that are potentially hard to throw a rope too, but a paddler can paddle back up into. You buddy swims in a hole...

Re: Whitewater Turkey
I did the Beautiful grade 3 Dalaman river, rafting in Turkey but it's only a day trip. Could be worth checking it out if you are there. The local guides would be desperate to buy any of your old kit you bring with you. Possibly speak to Dave Manby or Chris Eastabrook as they have both participated i...

Re: Throwlines
I agree with everything that has been said here. Get a 20m bag and get one with a decent sized rope. Then, learn to throw it. When I got my first throwline I would spend hours throwing it round the garden or on the river bank whilst people are running shuttle. I have been using the Palm Alpine for t...

Re: PINNED
Was that all the same day/group or were you throwing empty boats in to practice rescues? Nope, these were real scenarios. Despite the strength of a modern WW boat, I wouldnt intentionally pin my kayak in that spot! When we arrived to the raipd the first boat was already pinned across the drop. The ...

The very best thing I have found is a Nintendo wii remote strap. It is of a decent strength that it won't break. It is also thin enough to go through the metal hinge on the bottom.

Of course there's always Lewisham's stunning Ravensbourne. Start at Ladywell park (in monsoon+ conditions) and get carried over, under and round the shopping trolleys before negotiating a surprisingly fun (IIRC) rapid under Lewisham station (complete with a surprisingly large dirty-grey hole where ...

by DaveBland » Mon Oct 22, 2012 7:26 pm Most folks paddle with a reasonably tight group of buds most the time. Maybe them knowing your partner/parents/whoever's phone number and if you have any unusual allergies etc is enough for most folks. I know that's what 'our group' does. Blood group is a goo...
