Re: Name these fresh faced young chaps!

Ah good to see this historical photo still around and particularly fitting as it`s just over 7 years since we lost Chris Wheeler and he`s in so many of our thoughts for enriching our lives. His memory lives on.

Also worth noting that if continuing onto the Lower Tavy the large weir that was removed a couple of years ago has been rebuilt and looks particularly manky and unpleasantly done.

Re: Should I paddle with people who don't belong to a Club

Hmmm. I`m breaking my golden rule here of getting involved in one of these potentially circular conversations. Life`s too short. But here goes Firstly in answer to the question. Paddle with who you like. Why would you not? No one can tell you who to paddle with. Also paddling with avariety of people...

Re: Good guidebooks around the world

Ah yes Jim. THE sTOREY guide has been superceded , but it was ground breaking at the time, nothing had EVER been produced as efficiently or comprehensively before for British rivers, it was all typed sheets, partial limited edition pamphlets and hearsay before that!!. I still have my well thumbed an...

Re: Good guidebooks around the world

And of course any self respecting student of river guides would resort to my article"A Brief History of The Paddling Guide" as published in the now sadly missed CKUK ISSUE 144 March 2013. A collector`s item now? (well I would say that , huh?). No idea whether you can access past issues on line now? ...

Thanks. Just trying to place the location. Is it easy enough to see/avoid? Did you do it today. Take it, it was low. Was it paddleable? Any other trees to avoid . One past the slot doesn`t look a problem.

Re: Abingdon Weir Hydro- AGAIN!!

The issue is not whether you are pro or anti hydro. The point is that if a hydro is to be built it should not be detrimental to the environment nor to the recreational activities that have been carried on for around forty years and through which the local community has benefitted. Furthermore if the...

I didn`t know Ian but it was clear from his posts that he was a highly knowledgeable and respected paddler. It is very sad but his memory will live on with those who knew him and for those who didn`t it will live on in works such as the South Alps Guide,

Points in your favour are that the EA is statutorily obliged to promote recreation. It is NOT so obliged to promote any hydro scheme. This is new territory for the EA. Re: Exeter proposed hydroelectric scheme for Pots

From our ongoing experience with a proposed scheme on Abingdon Weir, it is important to pick up on the Publication of the proposal by the EA. Legally all they have to do is publish a notice in the back of the local paper that there is an application to extract water. You then have 28? days to object...
