Keep your radio handy, the only problem I have had on this trip was a fairly close encounter with a large fishing boat, whose attention I was unable to attract.

Hi Mike,
An electricity meter & a consumer unit should not produce ozone under normal conditions, only if a breaker (or fuse) trips or a switch is operated under load, but this will be for such short periods as to be negligible.

Hi Sean,
I would be careful inflating a dry suit, You don't want to end up on the surface, but head down unable to turn because your dry suit legs are inflated.

Re: Some questions about tandem kayaks

Hi Gordon, About 15 years ago I bought a tandem (Rainbow Atlantis) to get my wife out sea kayaking as she was a bit nervous. I can control the boat in even fairly large conditions with a non-paddling person in the front (I have had to on a few occasions when someone has become sea sick & swapped pla...

Re: Towing eyes

Hi Jet,
It is concern that a pedestrian crossing between parked cars or in a car park & not expecting a towing eye to be sticking out (they are low down), which could cause a significant bruise or a significan injury to an elderly or infirm person. So I remove them when they are not in use.

Has anyone had a polyethylene kayak welded to repair damage? If so are you able to recomend someone that can do the job?
Thanks Ken

Re: Towing eyes

As I understand it if your car has screw in towing eyes that protrude past the bodywork they should be removed when not in use, to protect pedestrians in very low speed inpacts such as when the car is parked & someone has to cross the road between parked vehicles or when walking round a car park.

Hi,
I am not a petite lady, but I use a Reed Chillcheater bespoke shortie cag (when not using a Damex drysuit). Both companies produce bespoke clothing to your measurements & I have found their products fit well & work well.

Re: Weighting a kayak...

Hi Beryl, If you choose to weight the kayak, I would use water bags so that the boat will not sink if it fills with water (even if you have bulkheads, air bags or fixed buoyancy). If you can I think you would be better off getting used to the handling on flat water, then moving up to more challengin...

Re: Do cockpit covers reduce fuel consumption?

Hi, I have a Vito campervan with a Karitek easyloader. I find a small difference in fuel consumption between 2 sea kayakaks & an empty loader (1-2 mpg), but no perceptable difference with or without cockpit covers, I use the covers to keep water out of the cockpits. I find similar results for my car...

Re: How much buoyancy do you need?

Hi, If you are considering inflating a drysuit, one problem is that because the BA holds the top close to your body you end up inflating the legs. I have seen people float upside down in a drysuit unable to get their head to the surface because they forgot to purge the dry suit of air. This happened...

Re: How much buoyancy do you need?

The main problem if you reduce the buoyancy of your PFD is in very rough water where you will spend extra energy to keep your mouth high enough up to breath.

Re: River white water training for sea kayaking?

Hi, On flat water most boats turn more efficiently on an outside edge, partly because the boat does it natrually, but also partly because you tend to paddle further from the low edge than the high edge. In dynamic water stability becomes more important so you show the relative flow the hull of your ...

Hi Ceegee, I am not sure that getting in the water is a good idea, if there is a strike to the water surface the lateral currents in the water at the point of the strike could be 10000's A/m2, reducing as the inverse square of the distance, the current will flow through a body the same as water (our...
