Re: Vimeo and music copyright
Including noise from your filming seems to deal with the issue, particularly when a single song has been used. I don't know whether it confuses the detection software, or whether it simply means no one will use the video as a substitute for buying/streaming the track.

Re: Vimeo and music copyright
@callwild this is exactly the problem! I think it falls under fair use (maybe not in the legal sense of the term, more the common language one) to use music for a kayaking video if you're not making a profit from it and credit the artist. It's maybe a bit like stealing pens from the office or doing...

Re: Another "Which Camera" Question!
I treated myself to an Olympus TG-4 after a seven-day stretch at work (although I probably should've bought a cheaper camera and a dry cag) and it's served very nicely for stills. Video is ropey based on use so far, though. Read up a bit on how to fix it, but haven't had much chance to test those me...

Re: Pondering New Zealand...
Just some thoughts on this: - if it's only a year, can you maximize your earning here and just "holiday" over there instead? I wouldn't want to rely on finding work to see me through the year and additionally there's a lot of time required to really maximise your paddling time. - l lived over in Ch...

Re: Pondering New Zealand...
Been advised to look at shipping my Zet over as it'd probably be cheaper than a new boat even if I'd sold the Raptor. Does anyone know of decent international companies who take kayaks?

I'm working along the lines of wanting to have a crack at the Glen and East Lyn before I go, so having the boat insured would be preferable.

Re: Sending boats abroad by courier
I already have a return flight booked with Qantas, guess it might be possible to purchase additional weight allowance for that if I do end up buying a boat out there. I just want to know what the options are regarding couriers.

Sending boats abroad by courier
A couple of friends have suggested I look into this for New Zealand, reasoning that it'll probably be cheaper overall than selling my current boat and buying another out there. Does anyone here have experience of arranging this and how much it tends to cost?

Short-term boat insurance
My BCU membership's just expired, and as I'm leaving the UK in two months it isn't worth renewing it for the insurance. Are there any short-term options people could recommend?

Re: Qatar and Emirates Airline now charge for boats
Qauntas allow surfboards and sup paddles (according to their website). And after a phone call with them and a kiwi travel agent last week they will go in the over size, if under 3metres but it will take up part of your 30kg 1 bag allowance (even though its a separate bag!) for example, I can have m...

Does this affect Qantas? (I know they're affiliated with Emirates to some extent) I'm planning to sell my Raptor before NZ, but still taking paddles.

New fence at the Lower Mawddach getoff
The old fence by the car park has been removed and a new one put in, right at the top of the little rise you walk up after getting off the water. It threw me a bit yesterday so I figured I'd mention it here. It's possible to climb over, but barbed wire so be careful with your dry gear. By the by, th...

Re: Pondering New Zealand...
Do these reflect prices for Qantas' additional baggage allowance? 'cause if so, that'd see me paying not much less than I paid for the Zet itself. Also, I'm not seeing any option for open-jawed tickets- am I not looking in the right place, or is 12 months the absolute limit? http://www.emirates.com/...

My plan is to work and boat continuously, at least in the first half of the visa. Auckland uni canoe club has lots of members who aren't studying (myself being one). Parents are nudging me towards staying in a bigger city- employment being more likely there, and all that. I'm guessing there have to be clubs in Auckland which get to the Kaituna and the like fairly often. Wondering about Tauranga as a compromise.

Compact cameras and video quality
My old Kodak's showing its age and I'm looking to replace it. I already own a GoPro and want something I can carry in my BA, so I'm looking at the Olympus TG-3 and its ilk. Video-wise, is their quality noticeably different to, say, a Hero 2's? Failing to gauge it from youtube.
