Re: downriver kayak for sea use

It is quite easy to fit an over stern rudder to a WWR. I fitted one of the venture kayaks/P&H rudders to an old Prijon Savage. By far the hardest task was working out the footrest steering mechanism and rudder lines. I made a bulldozer bar style footrest to fit on top of the existing footbar. The ru...

Re: Switching back n forth between stable & tippy boats...ba

There is a condition which the Eskimos got called kayak angst which led to them being unable to paddle and thus unable to hunt and support their families/communities. I think this had something to do with sitting on still water for long periods of time and losing reference points. Whilst not exactly...

Re: I've just ordered my first "Masters" marathon K1

I have described my stability problems whilst trying to adapt to K1s as the yips too! I am also in my 40s with a stressful job and limited time each week to paddle. I had done ok in a stable K1 (lance) by getting to div7 but anything less stable has been a long term nightmare. I tried all sorts of t...

Sugru self setting rubber

Not sure if others have heard of Sugru self-setting rubber but B&Q have just started stocking it for an initial trial for £8 a pack. Bigger packs are available on the Sugru website - Google it to find out more. According to the web-site and other reviews it looks brilliant for fixing, moulding and a...

Re: Most influential WW Paddlers of all time?

In no particular order: Alan Byde - GRP canoe building author and coach. Pics from his books were a major inspiration in the '70's. His instructions helped scouts groups and many others to affordably build their own GRP kayaks which were capable of running rapids Jon Lugbill & Davey Hearne - for (at...

Re: UK squirt spots

Where's Telford's Trove on the Dee? Used to go Squirting in the early 90's and mainly used the Dee for surface runs with blasting, screw ups etc where it was deep enough. Besides HP we also got downtime on the Falls of Lora (scary) and at West Tanfield below the camp site (a lot less scary). Also tr...

Re: Numb legs in marathon K1

I have definitely found that the boat I first used which had the lowest seat is the worst for numbness - I tried it again last week and I only lasted 10 minutes. With a higher seat in the same boat it is better. I am a bit limited as I am using club boats so cannot put in any fixed customisation. At...

Numb legs in marathon K1

Are there any top tips to help prevent legs going numb? I have been paddling a variety of club marathon development kayaks for the last year but cannot seem to prevent at least one leg going numb after about 20 to 30 minutes. This affects power, balance and steering. I have tried various home-made p...

Re: Replacement for Lendal Powermaster Paddles

Have you looked at Streamlyte paddles? I currently use Streamlyte Visage paddles which appear to be similar to the Lendal Powermaster ie. large blade, conventional assymetric paddles designed for marathon racing, 760cm2 area per blade. They are less spooned though than my old Lendal Nordkapps which ...

Re: Which Mid Range Paddle???^

A late contribution to this thread! I had a similar question but wanted some paddles which would double up as bulletproof sea paddles and to get me started in marathon kayaking. I didn't want wings as they are too restrictive. I have an old set of two piece Lendal SF Kinetic Touring Blades but have ...
