Re: London Boat Show Highlights

The shows on the whole I thought were a waste of money, neither were as good as they once were. BUT the freestyle team were fantastic. They were the only redeeming feature for me

Did anybody go to either of the shows? What were your thoughts? I did and was thoroughly disappointed. Did I miss something everyone is telling me it was great. I would agree that the GB Kayaking Team were fantastic well worth watching.

Re: Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

I'd like to think my driving test comparison holds up. I am a kayaking coach and I want to get better, I don't want to change.

All you've said is that if you were qualified to do one thing then to do something different you'd need to do another qualification, which makes sense.

Re: Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

This certificate / paper chase is getting ridiculous. Are we going to be left to our own devices after 2012 since, if we are honest thats what the BCU are really concentrating on at the moment!!

Re: Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

So taking in your previous advice this means Mark would need to do A UKCC L2 Training course A UKCC L2 Assessment course A MWE to be at the same level as he is in canoe. Means it was a bit pointless doing the old scheme really doesn't it. Surely someone can see why old scheme coaches would be a litt...

Re: Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

Ok let me clear some stuff up, I was asking why I should pay further money to the BCU just to move to their new scheme when I have already paid for the old one. I didn't choose the change but will now have to change to improve my qualifications and skills. The fact that the new scheme seems to be a ...

Re: Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

I think you are missing my point, I don't object to paying for the course, it is the admin cost that the BCU have placed on it I object to. Maybe you could enlighten me as to how I can progress my coaching without transferring?

Ukcc level 2 transfer costs

After a conversation with the BCU yesterday I was disgusted to learn that they want £39 to register to do the new level 2. Surely they changed the scheme and old scheme coaches should upgrade at a reduced rate. All the BCU would tell me is that the cost covered the folder, Orr requisite checking and...

Re: Accomadation in South Wales???

Thanks very much for the suggestions, we have now found a place, owned by the south wales caving club, hopefully will be good and from looking at the map should be close to some of the rivers we're planning to do.

Cheers

Re: Accommodation in Dartmoor

If the course is on a weekend the River Dart Country Park is pretty good, £50 for the two nights plus breakfast both days and dinner Saturday, a sort of effective drying room and an onsite bar. well we were happy with it. Good food too

Re: Help... Video Cameras

Macs are amazing for video editing, and they don't crash, imovie is great and easy to use. I have used final cut pro but don't really understand it that well so found imovie better and unless you have bottomless pockets final cut pro would be a waste of money, currently retailing at around 900 quid....

The pay across the industry isn't great but we don't do it for the money. A lot of companies will pay just about minimum wage especially if you have few quallies. Unfortunately this is an industry you can't just turn up to and start working unless you go to pgl. I'm not trying to put you of but it w...

Re: Advice - Outdoor instructor

I would think twice before doing and intensive course. Centres want experience as well as qualifications, generally if we get a cv for someone who has only done an ITC we make a paper aeroplane and spend a while throwing it around, you get the idea. Although I didn't do it I would recommend going to...

After 'reading' canoe focus this month and seeing the 'Indoor Kayaking Championship'. This makes me wonder are we entering the Wii generation of kayaking, or has the 'elf and safety executive gone a bit far, 'Oh no you can't go kayaking on water as you may get wet, cold, hypothermia, drown, hurt you...
